CAS and Grunge

The challenge on Addicted to CAS is Grunge.  I think that is a hard one to carry off but I am going to give it a try.

When I think of GRUNGE I think masculine.  Some of the sample cards on the Addicted to CAS site aredefinately not masculine.  Maybe I will have to try a feminine version.  I could not go single layer.  Single layer cards scare me - really scare me.

Since I think masculine, I dug out my favorite truck stamp.  It is an old stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms.  I do not believe the new owners have brought back this image.  They really should.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts.  I distressed the edges of the image, mat and sentiment with my Tim Holtz distresser.  I did some embossing on the upper corner of my card and then I got out a mask and used some distress paint to add the green and blue color to the card front.

I hope I achieved CAS and also GRUNGE.  I am going to go make another card like this since I cut a 12 x 12 sheet of card stock and can make one more card.  Both these cards will go in my next Operation Write Home box.

Clean and Simple Masculine Card

Paper Players' Weekly Challenge is to make a CAS masculine card.  This was a wonderful challenge for me because I wanted to get a masculine card made and sent off to a friend's husband who is going through a rough stretch right now in his health.

The truck stamp is a favorite that is no longer available from Cornish Heritage Farm Stamps.  I do hope they bring it back someday.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts.  Kraft Paper and black as your accent color make a great card.

I made a second card just like this one for my Operation Write Home box.

Simon Says Try a Sketch

I got some new paper from Fancy Pants Design and the collection is called Swagger - fun paper - great for masculine cards.  I needed a get well card for my nephew - he is having his tonsils removed at the age of 40 - rough surgery for an adult.

The Simon Says Stamp Challenge Blog has a couple sketches for their challenge this week.  This card is based on one of the sketches.  The sketch was  a square card but mailing square cards involves getting to the post office for the correct postage.  Here is the sketch I used.

I just started the online class - Pattern Play - I played with a few patterns but I also used some solids to offset everything.  Did you notice the silver dots in the corner of the image - every card with a truck on it needs chrome - don't you think.

Virtual Card Making Party with Operation Write Home

This week end Operation Write Home is having a Virtual Card Making party.  I was gone most of yesterday but did start a few cards last night for the challenges from yesterday.  This card is for the challenge - All Creatures Great and Small - I have a box almost ready to be mailed but I did not have any masculine cards in the box so thought I would make a few to include.  This fish paper (a fish is a creature) is from Hobby Lobby - and I like to use it for masculine cards.  The burlap paper is from Hobby Lobby also.  The sentiment is a favorite Hero Arts stamp - works well for a masculine card.

Luckily these cards were laying on my design table and I just had to finish adhering them together.  These cards will go into two challenges.  One challenge is for partial embossing - I did not have the time to do what the video showed but will try it soon so I decided just to emboss part of the card front and stamp below the embossing or I guess it was stamp and then emboss above the stamping.

The second challenge for these cards is things with wheels.  This stamp is a favorite - no longer available from Cornish Heritage Farms - maybe the new company under this name will bring it back - it makes such a great masculine card with just plain stamping - no coloring needed.  The square card is a 4.25 square - someone standing at my cutting table was not thinking as they trimmed that piece of kraft paper.

Well I need to get some healthy groceries - six of us in the office joined a weight loss team - so I guess I need to buy some more fruits and vegetables and lean meat.  Working on plans for a trip to Florida and oh yes - must do some housework and probably laundry.  YUCK on all that stuff - I would much rather play with my paper.

CAS-ual Friday Masculine Card Challenge

This week at CAS-ual Friday the challenge is to make a masculine card.  I needed a couple masculine thinking of you cards for a friend who had heart surgery and a family member who is battling cancer.

CFC77-Create a new Clean And Simple masculine project.

I chose to use Kraft as the basic color for my card with black as the accent.  The truck stamp is by Cornish Heritage Farms - since they now have a different owner - I do not know if you can still get this stamp.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts.  I placed the top part of the card front in an embossing folder to add some texture.  I like the partial embossing - a little something different.  If you notice the kraft color on the sentiment is different than the card base - I used a scrap I had for the sentiment.  This adds more design interest - she says with a smile.

Simple Stories Paper and Operation Write Home Cards

It is Sunday - to start my day off with creativity - I went to Stars and Stripes Blog - card blog for Operation Write Home - to get their weekly sketch.  Both cards started with the sketch but the bottom card took a different turn - I have been trying to make masculine cards so dug out my trusty truck stamp from the old Cornish Heritage Farms.  The "UR COOL" is on one of the pieces of paper so thought it worked well for a sentiment. 

The first card stayed pretty much on the sketch track.  I did not like the star as an embellishment after I put it on but when I removed it - alas - I tore paper underneath so the star went back on.  It does pick up the stars in the background paper.  The stamp used is by Hero Arts and is one I have had for years and use it quite often on cards.  I like trees.  Of course, on both cards, the image and sentiment are both pop dotted.

The paper collection is from a 6 x 6 pad from Simple Stories called Awesome.  Don't tell anyone I bought three more 6 x 6 pads yesterday.  Shhhhhh  -   it is our secret.

Well I promised myself I would pick up the garage today because we are in this great stretch of weather in Wisconsin - over a week of 70's and 80's.  Not too hard to take.  Enjoy the remainder of your day.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Oldie Moldie Monday - showing some love to some old paper.  Gotta love those 6 x 6 pads of Basic Grey or all 6 x 6 pads - they hold a special place in my heart and all over my crafting area.  Three more cards for Operation Write Home.  The truck is a favorite for masculine cards - and the thank you stamp is from Hero Arts.

Oldie Moldie Monday

I dug into my collection of Basic Grey to do my oldie moldie Monday card.  The weekly midweek challenge on Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stamps - is masculine cards.  I dug out my favorite truck stamp - I like this stamp - I don't have to color it - that I enjoy.  I stamped it with some Colorbox chalk ink.  This type of ink works so well when you are just stamping an image.

Card Kits

Good morning - today I am sharing a couple kits I have prepared for an Operation Write Home card party which is being held later July in Madison, WI at the Scrapbook Superstore.  My goal is to have 100 cards ready to be made.  I think I can do it.  Each of these kits are 6 cards each.  I love this truck  stamp - It is from a company that is no longer in business - Cornish Heritage Farms- sad - they had beautiful stamps.  I thought the kraft paper with the tire tread design on it was a perfect complement to the travel paper and truck stamp. 

I love to find patterned paper with words on it - such as the happy birthday paper - no need to add a sentiment - the paper says it all. 

Did you realize Operation Write Home has sent a million cards overseas to our Heroes to send home to loved ones and they are making a start on their second million.  I am sure the second million will happen much faster than the first.

Good Monday - a holiday from work today - and it is snowing and the wind is blowing so it is a good day to be at home - now have I gotten anything accomplished today - no - but I still have the afternoon to get some things done. I have one card on my "to do" list and then after that - anything that I do in the card making department is a bonus.

Today is Oldie Moldie Monday - time to use some of those old supplies - I am trying to use up these pieces of this collection from Basic Grey - I think I have accomplished that - I did save the solids and put them back in the Basic Grey box - I think the scraps made some wonderful masculine cards for Operation Write Home - I even used a new stamp set I got - the What's Shakin sentiment and salt and pepper shaker - from Unity Stamp. The midweek challenge on the Operation Write Home card blog - Stars and Stamps - was to use your oldier supplies. I do believe this qualifies.

Good Sunday morning - today I must do laundry, dishes, get some groceries, etc - an entire work week - I haven't worked one of those for several weeks - reality returns in 2011. Plus it is a very busy time at work so no time to sit back - full steam ahead. I like being busy at work but not so busy that you don't know what to do first.

I spent some time creating yesterday. I have some birthday cards that needed to be made. I have one more to do for the month of January and I may get that one done today. If I get that one done - then I can start working on cards for Operation Write Home - my goal for the new year is one card a day - I may not get a card made each day - but hopefully 7 in a week. If you have extra supplies around, please make some cards for Operation Write Home. Just make sure you stop over and read the do's and don'ts of cardmaking for OWH.

My card today is for one of my son in laws - both son in laws have birthdays in December - that is a bad time of the year for a cardmaker - and of course who works ahead - maybe that should be a goal for next year. I bet both of them would be in shock if they got a birthday card near their birthday. I always have to send Chris his birthday card in the early part of January because his wife's birthday is January 7 - so he needs his card first. Come back tomorrow to see Staci's birthday card.

Chris's card is based on a sketch from Unscripted Sketches (you can use any of their sketches from 2010 this week - this card is based on sketch 35). I also found a new challenge site yesterday when I was blog hopping - it is called City Crafter Challenge Blog and their challenge this week is stamping. This truck stamp is one of my favorites - one color stamping - no coloring - easy peazey.

Good evening - short on posts this week - I must be busy - or at least not creating. I did manage to put together a card this morning. My cards are for the mid week challenge at Operation Write Home's card blog Stars and Stripes. The challenge came from the shipper's - and they wanted more masculine cards. I had the dinosaur card started (for a little masculine man) and I used some of the same paper in my masculine card. Dug out the truck stamp and went to town.

I had to have more laser surgery today - this time it was on my right eye - my left eye is doing OK. I hope I don't have any more tears in my retina. It scares you when something is happening to your eyes.

Everyone have a wonderful evening. Grilling out tonight. Steaks and my new love - sweet potatoes on the grill. Yummy.

Oldie Moldie Monday - 4-26-2010

Good Monday morning – another work week starts. But of course, Monday does bring Dancing With the Stars and Kate has gone home – so who am I going to make fun of now. Oh woe is me.

Yes it is Monday – Oldie Moldie Monday - time to dig into your supplies and find some of that paper that you once loved but never used, it got buried in the bottom of the pile with new paper put on top – now is time to dig it out and make some beautiful cards. My friend Ivanka and I do this each week on Monday to try and use some of our oldier once loved paper. We even have a Flicker site where you can come join us and post your oldie moldie creations.

This week’s paper is not that oldie moldie. It is only a year old. I used it for a retirement card last year for one of my bosses. I love the colors in this paper. I thought it would make some great masculine cards for Operation Write Home. The first card is based on the weekly sketch at the OWH card blog. The other cards are just my creations using a few masculine stamps (I don’t have too many masculine stamps).

Wacky Wednesday

Good evening - the hardest part of doing a blog - is coming up with a title each time you post - why - oh - why isn't their a book - Post Titles for Blog for Dummies. Of course, I leave a pretty boring life so don't have lots to say.

Tonight's card is based on the sketch at Get Sketchy - a good basic sketch - I offset the vertical stripe. One of the goals for this year is to try and use up some of the older paper I have. It is really pretty paper - hopefully not too pretty - since this is a card for a male.

Where did the week go?

Sorry - no posting this week - I struggled making a sympathy card all week so not too much productivity. I made this card for my neighbor boy - he turned 8 - but his name is Hunter and his Dad is a hunter - so Hunter had seen this image on a card I had made and he told me then - he wanted this image on his birthday card.

Everyone have a wonderful evening - I had the day off today - hopefully friday does not feel like a Monday. Busy week end ahead.

Why are Week End only 2 days long??

Maybe a 3 day week end would be long enough - but I bet pretty soon we would all complain that it was too short. Usually in the month of July I try to do 3 day week ends - my reward for surviving June. Got lots accomplished - the lawn is mowed - YEAH!!! Got some of the house cleaned - and I got 3 cards made this week end - well the last one is still being finished.

The card tonight satisfies two challenges - it is a get well card for my brother - I heard on Monday night late he had triple by pass surgery - a little bit of a shock - but he is home and probably driving Ellie crazy - I thought I would send him a card - he likes to hunt so I know he will enjoy the subject matter. The card is based on the sketch at Taylored Expressions - I took a little liberty and moved the square to the other side and rotated the design. The second part of the the challenges was the challenge on Cuddlebug to make a masculine card.
