Birthday Card

I decided to play along with the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch

I am making cards for several different charities so not sure which box this card will go into.
I used a well aged 6 x 6 pad of papers .  I even stamped the bird on patterned paper and it was die cut out.  The sentiment was fussy cut from the patterned paper also.

I enjoy playing along with sketches.  The CASE challenges are interesting for me because I am not a CASE card maker.  The more layers the better for me.  I help keep the US Postal Service in business.

Time to Make Christmas Cards

Christmas is fast approaching and I do not have many Christmas cards made.  Luckily the challenge at Merry Monday Christmas Card Challenge was something I get on board with.  Everyone loves a penguin and I have quite a few penguin stamps.  One year I made cards with every penguin stamp I had.  It was a fun week.

I am also entering it into the City Crafter Challenge which is colorful birds

This lone little penguin stamp was floating around in a box of stamps so he jumped out and I made two Christmas cards.  I used a 6 x 6 Lawn Fawn Christmas pad.  I love the combination of colors they used.  I colored Mr. Cutie with copic markers.  Glitter was added to his skates and ear muffs.  A little glitter was put on the aqua embellishment on top of the snowflake.  This baker's twine was a perfect match for the color combination from the papers.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope there are more challenges that inspire me to make a couple Christmas cards.  Have a wonderful day.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Monday - time to share some creations made with well aged paper.

These cards are going in a box to be sent to a troop being overseas.  One of my fellow card makers I met through Operation Write Home is sending cards overseas to some of soldiers from her state.  She asked her card making friends if they would contribute cards.  Many of us are sending cards to her.  These are the last cards I am putting in the box.

I generated the sentiment on the computer.  Very simple cards but hopefully they will bring a smile to the sender and receiver of the card.

Oldie Moldie Monday

It is Monday - time to show some love for your old supplies.

I checked out the challenges - and found one that fit - thank goodness - since I need to be working on Christmas cards.

The challenge at Merry Monday is  to use a tag on your project.

I had sitting on my table this cute little penguin.  He was already colored.  I knew exactly the old paper I wanted to use but I could not find it - but that is ok - because I had another purple grouping.  It is a Christmas 6 x 6 pad but you couldn't really tell from the papers I used.

I think the penguin stamp was once a $1 stamp at Michael's.  The tag is a die from Paper Smooches.  The sentiment is from a Hero Arts set.

Yay - one more Christmas card made and there are 3 more penguins sitting over there that I could make a few more cards for my Christmas cards for 2017.

Clean and Simple Happy Birthday Cupcake

I have been working on some cards for a couple boxes for charity.  I wanted to do some birthday cards and this is what I was inspired to create.

I started with a digital image and sized it so I could 4 on an 8.5 x 11 sheet.  I then cut these images out with a rectangle stitched die.  I then printed the same images on printed card stock and fussy cut them out.  I sued distress ink to color around the cupcake.  Dry embossed a white panel to pop the cupcake panel on.  I matted the white panel with turquoise paper to match the sentiment.  This could very well be an oldie moldie monday post because this is an old digital image, old sentiment stamp and old patterned paper.  But, as I always say, your old supplies still make beautiful cards.

I am entering this in the following challenges.

Addicted to Stamps where the challenge is Clean and Simple.

CASology where the challenge is Cake.

Wednesday Simon Says Stamp where the challenge is Clean and Simple.

Shop Your Stash where the challenge is Emboss Like A Boss.  I dry embossed my white embossing mat and heat embossed my sentiment.

Tuesday Throwdown where the challenge is Happy Birthday.

Whew I have not done that many challenges in such a long time.

Thanks for stopping by.

Journal Page a Day Keeps a Woman Sane

A couple weeks ago I had to have my appendix removed.  I am recovering and I am not a patient patient.  Do you know how many things you drop on the floor each day.  If you bend you have to make it count.

I have been journaling/creating and this has helped me stay somewhat sane.  The challenge at Mixed Media Monthly Challenge is Vintage - I created a Vintage page.

I made my entry on a separate page of kraft paper and adhered it to the journal page.  Sometimes this works better, especially if you are using sprays.  Don't ask me how I know this.

The background is a collage of many different things.  I know I used dry wall tape, some bandage tape, paper, fabric, string, etc.  It was all covered with a layer of white gesso and gold gesso.  This gold gesso is so much fun to work with.  I added some embossing paste for the brick wall the couple is standing on and also some circle is the upper right corner.  The frame was bought in a package of frames at a rummage sale for 25 cents - plus many of the frames were already fussy cut.  I used distress paints, distress oxide inks to color the background.  I found this vintage feeling washi tape that is in the upper left corner.  The sentiment and couple are Tim Holtz products.  The heart was cut from a piece of packaging.

I used a few rub ons in some places trying to use up some of my supplies.

Here are some close ups of different parts of the page.

I love how the background turned out on this page.  It has a very vintage feel.  I took a plain pencil and marked around the couple and different edges on the page.  It added just a little contrast in the background.

You can see a rub on in this upper right corner.

Art is therapy and it is helping me heal.  I do wish it would do it faster though.  It helps the mind but the body takes it sweet time.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Monday - time to show some love for your old supplies.  I needed a birthday card for a great niece later this month.

The image is by Paper Smooches and has been in my supplies for a long time.  The paper is from a 6 x 6 pad.

Remember to show some love for your old supplies - use it and then you won't feel as guilty when you buy new stuff.

Hapy Little Stampers September ATC Challenge

It is time for the September ATC challenge at Happy Little Stampers.

An ATC is a tiny work of art that measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches.  They are so fun to create.  They can be as flat or as fat as you want.

This month the challenge for HLS ATC is shapes.  I had a set of dies with different size shapes in it and decided to use that on my ATC's.  The background is done with distress oxides.  I cut the shapes with my dies and layered them for some dimension and texture.  I traced around them with a black pen to add definition to the shape.  A simple label was created for each ATC.

Please join us this month at Happy Little Stampers September ATC challenge.  We want to see your spin on "shapes".

Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes with Die Cuts September Challenge

Time for a new challenge at Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes with Die Challenge.

It is time for you to dig out your dies and paper supplies and make a project for our September challenge.

I made this card for an exchange for a card making group I am in.  The theme was washi tape.  You look at this card and you say - where is the washi tape - well the washi tape was applied to card stock and then die cut.  The feathers and two of the hellos are from washi tape.  The black hello is from card stock.

The background was made with distress inks. smooshed on the paper.  The paper was matted with black.

Happy Little Stampers September Mixed Media Challenge

How did it get to be September?  All the kids have now returned to school so everyone has more free time to spend creating (ha ha)..

The September challenge for Mixed Media at Happy Little Stampers is collage.

I had recently gotten a new stamp set from Concord and 9th.  It is called Lacy Leaves.  The leaves are stamped with brown embossing powder or acrylic paint backgrounds and distress oxide ink background.

Here are some close ups of different parts of the card.  The top of the leaves with a twine bow and gold thread.

The coordinating die cut that goes with the stamp set.

Here is the collage background for my card.    Just a bunch of different thinks glued to a base.

I dry brushed a light coat of gesso over the top of the collage.

A cut strip of gold vellum was sewn to the top of the card.

The leaves are from two different backgrounds.  One leaf is brown embossed on a distressed oxide ink background.  The other two leaves are embossed on acrylic paint backgrounds.

The sentiment was die cut several times and stacked on top of each other.  The remainder of the sentiment was stamped on the card base.

I am really happy with how this card turned out.  I have two more collaged backgrounds to make cards with.

Please join us at Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media September Challenge.

Back to today - a couple oldie moldie Monday cards.  I had these images colored.  The cards will go in a box of cards for soldiers.  They always need missing you cards.
