Oldie Moldie Monday

It is Monday - time to show some love for your old supplies.  Yes, I do have a large stash of cardmaking supplies but I do still use them.

Actually lately I have just been working on what is laying on my desk from projects I have been working on or projects that had good intentions.  I had a set of journaling cards on my desk or cut aparts and have been making cards out of them.

I have a friend going through a very rough time and I think this card will go to her.  I hope it cheers her.  I don't think she will care that the supplies were oldie but not moldie.

Remember to show some love for your old supplies.

Thanks for stopping by.

Winter Fun

I keep playing with things found on my desktop.  The penguin (a gaggle of three) were hanging out on my desktop for ages.  One went into the witness protection program on my desk hiding so he did not have to be part of the winter fun cards.  He will emerge sometime.

The current challenge at The Paper Players is Winter Fun in a clean and simple card design.  I decided to use two of the penguins in this challenge - I made 2 cards.

I found blue card stock which coordinated with the blue on the penguin's attire.  Matted a white snowflake embossed background and also used the blue to mat a circle for the penguin to sit on.
I embossed the circle also.  (I am trying to use my embossing folders more this year.)  I believe the sentiment die is from Penny Black.  I have had it a long time.  I did finish the card with some white irridescent splatters.

Thanks for stopping by - and yes the third penguin has shown his cute little face on the desk.

Oldie Moldie Monday

It is Monday, time to show some love for your old supplies and I have lots of old supplies which still make lovely cards.

I also have been challenging myself to "use what is on my desk" and some of this is well aged supplies.  I had a pile of cut aparts on the table and this is one of the cards I made.  It is right on trend with the mushrooms.

Thanks so much for stopping by and remember to show some love for your old supplies.

Beautiful Patterned Paper

When I first started card making, I fell in love with patterned paper.  Maybe it was because my first love was fabric.  I was not a stamper and so paper was how I made my cards.  I still love patterned paper and even though I have too much Christmas patterned paper, I could not resist by a few 6 x 6 pads.  Unfortunately I do not remember who makes this paper I used on my card but I believe it is a European company.

The current challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is wreath and I looked through the new patterned paper and yes there was a beautiful wreath.  The card is 5 x 7.  I matted the wreath (which had to be trimmed down) with two different solid colors.  I put everything on a light grey card base.  I like the contrast of the grey card base rather than using white.

I die cut a gold sentiment and placed in the center of the wreath.  I also fussy cut the poinsettia which was on the strip I cut off and popped it up over the poinsettia on the wreath.  I brushed on some red Stickles on the berries and then finished the card with gold and iridescent white splatters.  The white splatters brought it all together for me.

There are a couple more wreath images in the paper pad so I really should just make a few more of the card.

Something Old - Something New

It is never to early to start making your Christmas cards for 2024.  Luckily there are several challenge blogs which help you create.  They come up with the idea and then you must create.

The current challenge at Jingle Belles is Something Old and Something New.   I had to have the newest Tim Holtz sticker book this year so the gift tag (holly image) and postcard (holly image) and sentiments are from that sticker book.  The old part for the challenge is all the cardstock, embossing folders, and gold ink are from my stash.  I also used my red stickles and brushed some on all the berries.

I do like how the cards turned out.  One of my goals for the new year was to use my embossing folders and I have been rocking that.  This is a Gina K embossing folder and I like that it is bigger than the normal A2 card front.  It also has a vintage feel to it.

Scraps on the Desk and A Challenge

I am cleaning/clearing my house for a remodel project so I have been taking little mental breaks by looking at what is on my design table and making a card from it.  Today I found this lovely gift  tag I had saved for a card and two scraps of paper which matched perfectly.  How lucky was I in finding that matching paper.

Another goal I have for this year is to use my embossing folders more.  I grabbed one of my many snowflake embossing folders and did the entire background. I adhered the red and teal for the white layer and then embossed all of it.  The tag is popped up on the embossed background.

The current challenge at Jingle Belles is to Wrap It Up!  My little recycled tag worked wonderfully for the challenge.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Stay tuned for more Scraps on the Desk creations.  I already have two laid out.

Oldie Moldie Monday

It is Monday - time to show some love for your old supplies.

I believe I have had this fish paper since Operation Write Home creating days.  It made wonderful masculine cards.  The paper was from Hobby Lobby.

This will be a birthday card for my brother.

Thanks for stopping by.  Remember to use some of your older supplies and make something wonderful.

Valentine Card

It is time to think about making Valentine Cards.  It is not a holiday which is high on my list for making cards but I do try to send a few.  This card will go to one of my daughers and her husband.

The card was inspired by the current sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.   This sketch intrigued me so I wanted to give it a try.

I have been playing with my scrap bin and making gnomes so I already had the gnome made.  I had this floral die set out because the three prong leaf reminded me of the sketch.  I used the stem flower and leafy branch from the Sizzix set.  This morning I watched a video from Amy R. and she used the mushroom die which I have had for several months and not used.  Bonus I used two dies I had never used before.

The background is recycled backing from a package.  The sentiment is a sticker from Tim Holtz.  I used another mushroom to finish the inside.

Sketch Challenge and Never Used Item

I am trying to use some of the things I had to HAVE and then never used.  The bird which is a Tim Holtz die is one example of that.  A friend had a challenge to make a birthday card and put a bird on it.  Well I put a bird on my card but I did not make it a birthday card.  Oops.

The current challenge at Sunday Stamps is a sketch.  I really like the sketch it is very versatile.  I put my bird where the circle would have been (any shape).  The paper I used is a very old collection of boy paper which has dinosaurs on it. I love the colors in the collection.  I think that was the only piece of plaid paper left in the remaining paper I had.

Here is my card for the sketch. I do like the bird.  There are two bird designs in the die set.

I also want to use my embossing folders more this year so you can see there is a large circle design embossed in the blue paper.

1. Used oldie moldie paper (it doesn't smell moldie).

2. Used supply never used before.

3. Used embossing folder.

Yay - Barb - mission accomplished.

Oldie Moldie Monday and a Challenge

It is Monday, time to show some love for your old supplies.  I am tryping to work my way through a 6 x 6 inch pad of beautiful paper.  I already had the birthday sentiment stamped so it was an easy card to put together.

The current challenge at The Paper Players is to make a birthday card.  Here was my opportunity to dig into that pad of paper and do some creating.

Along with using up some of the beautiful patterned paper I have, I also want to use my embossing folders more.  I believe this embossing folder was one of the first ones I purchased.  It is the script folder from Cuddlebug.  It is timeless.

I fussy cut flowers from the patterned paper and used them to create a focal point on the cut out from the paper pad.  I used leftover pieces of gold and pink to complete the design.  I really do like how the card turned out.

Remember to show some love for your old supplies.  They still make beautiful cards.

Time to Start 2024 Christmas Cards

Yes, before you know it, it will be time to mail out 2024 Christmas cards.  I need over 100 cards so I need to get started early.  Luckily there are challenge blogs that help you jumpstart your creativity.

This week at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown the challenge is a sketch.

This is a great sketch.  My goal for the year is to make flat, bendable cards to save on postage when I mail my cards in December.  Postage is going up two cents in a couple weeks so it all adds up very fast.

This is a paper pad I have had for several years and the poinsettia was already fussy cut from some of the paper so it was an easy card to put together.  The hardest part was picking out the background paper.  The sentiment was even in the paper pad.  I added a strip of gold paper to coordinate with the gold lines in the flower and the background.  The sentiment and flower were popped up with foam tape.  Gold splatters completed the card.

Oldie Moldie Monday

It is Monday - the first Monday of 2024 - and it is Oldie Moldie Monday.  I am hoping that I will do a better job of posting cards this year.  I really do need to use up some of my supplies and not buy new supplies.  We will see how well this goes.

Here are a couple cards I made.  I am trying to use up the remnants of a 6 x 6 pad of beautiful paper. Here are the first two cards made from what I have left.

The sentiments were already stamped in the leftovers from the pad.  I did fussy cutting of some flowers on the cover of the pad and added them to my paper collage.  One feminine birthday card made.

For the first card I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches for my layout.  I did add a few embellishments.

Unforunately we always need sympathy cards and this paper makes a beautiful but simple card.

Remember to show some love for your old supplies.
