Oldie Moldie Monday

It is Monday - time to show some love for your old supplies.

I am using the August Sheetload of Cards for my layout for my cards.  This sketch works with 6 x 6 paper pads and I have lots.  It is a very nice sketch.

It was a nice sketch and easy to cut and put together.

Autumn - Fall Season Cards

Fall is coming.  Even though it is still summer you know Fall is coming because the leaves are drying up and some are falling off the tree and they rustle in the wind.  The squirrels are running around like crazy hiding their walnuts and acorns so they have something to feast on this winter.

I love to make Fall cards.  Leaves are a favorite focal point on many of my cards.  This is the card for the current challenge at Time Out Challenges - Season.  Fall is a season.

I made this card for a private Facebook group I am where the challenge was to use ribbon your card.  I have a large spool of this fall ribbon and thought it made the perfect backdrop for many different colored die cuts.  Gold splatter completed the card.  (I love splatters.)

Dabbling With Mixed Media

I love to play with Mixed Media but unfortunately I don't do much of it anymore.  I really do need to change that.  In a private Facebook group, we are celebrating our anniversary of existence.  We are all card makers.  One of the challenges for our anniversary celebration was to make a fall or Halloween tag.  For some reason, I decided to do mixed media.  I loved my tag and then my tag became a birthday card.  I have decided to share it on a new blog challenge I just found.  We Love To Create.  Their challenge this month is Anything Mixed Media Goes.

Slimline cards are so hard to photograph.  I adhered dictionary page to my tag.  I added a layer of cream colored acrylic over the top of the paper.  It was a light coat because I did want the print to show in places.  I die cut the sunflower and colored it with distress oxides.  I then cut several more of the sunflower and layered them together.  I added texture paste (the gold lines) in several different areas on the tag and eventually the card) and while it was still wet added gold embossing powder and then heated it.  It gets puffy and really cool looking.  I added some strips of patterned paper and also some gold striped washi tape that I then put two staples through.  The fabric trim was something I had in my stash that I had once colored.  The background for the card was done in basically the same way.  A repetition of elements on the tag so they melded together.  A little cream and gold bakers twine completed the bows.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope to play every month now.

Gina K Clean and Simple Birthday Wishes

The monthly challenge on the Gina K site is white space.  This is a hard one for me because I love layers of stuff on my cards but have been trying to do m ore of this style because they are easier to mail.

Here is my card.

I had to do a little ink smooshing to my background in the same color I used to color my image.  The image was heat embossed on the front panel and colored with Gina K ink.  I fussy cut the stamped image.

Floral Happy Birthday

It is time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  It is a sketch with great potential so I had to play along.

I recently got a new floral stamp from a collaboration between Altenew and Pink Fresh Studio.  I have stamped the flower in different color combinations and decided to use a pink flower in my design.

I had the base panel in my background box.  I love to add just a little color to my background when I am making a clean and simple card.  It just gives a little more depth to the card design.  I tried several different black and white combinations for the strip but the micro dot worked the best for me.

Watercolor and Doodles

I have been admiring this watercolor/doodling creations on Pintrest and finally decided to try my hand at it.  I was staying at my daughters and took only minimal supplies with me.

For these cards, I made a template for my watercolor squares (I did not want to attempt free handing those).  I laid the template on watercolor paper and painted the squares on.  After it was dry, I did some nature doodles with a black fine point marker.  After I knew the marker was dry, I filled in the spaces with a gold gel pen.  I stamped the happy birthday, die cut the rectangle, matted it with a coordinating green card stock and put on a kraft card base.

I am entering this into several challenges.  The first challenge is The Male Room where they are celebrating their 7th birthday.

The other challenge is CAS on Friday.  Their challenge is Nature.

I have many more of these templates colored and doodled.  I just need to make them into cards.

Thanks for stopping by.

Christmas 2020

It is time to start thinking and making Christmas card for 2020.  December will be here before we know it and we won't have our cards ready for mailing.

The new challenge at Mod Squad is to use a minimum of three patterned papers on a card.  I love to use patterned paper on my cards and have so much that I need to use.  I recently came across this beautiful pad of Christmas paper from  Kaiser Craft.

I believe there are four patterned papers on this card.  The inspiration for the card was a poinsettia swag that I fussy cut out.  I then cut out the white poinsettia from the center of the swag.  Another sheet in the 6 x 6 pad had some small poinsettias which I also fussy cut out.  The sentiment was in the pad also.  The first layer of flowers are glued to the background and the white flower has foam tape on it.  The remainder of the flowers are tucked in under the white flower.   A nest of gold thread is layered with the flowers.  Gold foil paper was used to mat the sentiment.  Some gold glitter enamel dots completed the design.

Here is a close up of the flower focal point.

There were 3 more swags in the paper pad and I have cut them out along with the individual poinsettias so I can make three more cards.

Floral Happy Birthday

I am working on birthday cards for a friend who is collecting them for a nursing home.  I found this lovely floral image in my goodie box.  It is a Penny Black stamp - I must have the die for it also.

I am going to enter it into the current challenge at Seize The Birthday - where they have a tic tac toe challenge.  I chose the diagonal line:  large sentiment, flowers, one image.

I found the pinkish background in my background box.

Happy Wedding Sweet Friends

A very dear friend of mine is having her formal wedding in August.  They exchanged their vows in May and were married then but the big celebration is coming up.  COVID 19 has changed the wedding plans for so many people.  I have made the decision not to travel to the wedding and feel very sad about it but feel it is better to be safe at home.

I wanted to make them a special card and I have struggled with deciding on a design.  I ordered the new paper pad from Altenew/Pretty Pink Posh collaboration.  The paper is beautiful and I was able to design the card.

The current challenge at The Paper Players is Wedding/Anniversary.

I die cut the words from gold card stock and added several layers of white card stock under it to make it pop off the page.  The floral paper was matted with the same gold card stock.  Another piece of pink card stock was used behind the gold mat.

I finished the card with some clear heart shaped embellishments and a splattering of gold water color.

Here is a close up of the focal point.  Isn't that floral paper gorgeous?

Thank You

A Facebook Group I am in is celebrating it's anniversary month.  We have challenges all through the month sponsored by members.  One of the first challenges was to use two stencils on your card.

I was going through my stencils and found a floral stencil I had to have years ago and had never used.  It was perfect for a slim line card.

The challenge this week at Freshly Made Sketches is to make a slim line card.

I cut my front panel out of Bristol Smooth card stock and taped my floral stencil to the front of it.  I used a red ink from Gina K.  I first attempted to watercolor it but it was not bright enough for me.  I then ink blended over the blooms with the same ink to make it brighter and deeper in color.  I was still not happy so I took some colored pencils and added more color to the blooms.  The stems were colored with a watercolor marker.  I then a black pen with a fine point and drew around the outside of the design.

I took the second stencil and inked in the lines with distress oxide ink.  The sentiment was heat embossed.  I trimmed the design, matted it with black and added  to a grey card base.  I did add some black and gold splatters.

I also made a coordinating envelope.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
