Oldie Moldie Monday - a Day Late

I was not home last week and week end so did not get a card made for Oldie Moldie Monday.  I had hopes of posting the card yesterday but I had my eyes examined in the afternoon and they were dilated.  Need to say I was not able to work on the card last night.  So here it is today.

The paper is the same I used last week for Oldie Moldie Monday - it is a Basic Grey 6 x 6 pad.  It is one of the Tim Holtz crazy birds stamped on gessoed book paper and colored with distress paint.  The sentiment is from Jilli Bean Soup.

I am entering it in the challenge on Shopping Your Stash - where the challenge is layers - lots of layers.  I love layers as you can see from my card.  The added bonus is that you use up more of your supplies.  Yeah - because you know we do not stop shopping.

Oldie Moldie Monday

More thank you notes for the office.  One of my fellow coworkers likes monkeys so I always make cards for him with monkeys on them.  Even his wedding and engagement cards had monkeys on them.  The sentiment stamp - I just found in my stash.  I thought it worked well.  The image was gifted to me so I have no information on it.  It was colored with Copics.  The paper is a well aged 6 x 6 pad from Basic Grey.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Yes Oldie Moldie Monday returns.  I made them today - my first day of not going to work retirement.  I don't think week ends count.  The paper is from an older Basic Grey 6 x 6 pad and the stamp is from Paper Smooches.  Even the yellow ribbon was a scrap that was left over.  Luckily it was just enough for the card.

Oldie Moldie Monday

I have been missing in action but hope now to get back on track and post more often again.  I needed to make a sympathy card.  A friend's son passed away.  My go to stamps for sympathy cards when a males has passed away is trees.  I chose to you a Basic Grey 6 x 6 pad called Basic Black Dress - it is amazing how nice a masculine card can be made with this paper.

The tree and sentiment were stamped in Versamark and I used Zing brown embossing powder.  The tree stamp is from Penny Black and the sentiment stamp is from Stampabilities.

I am entering this into the weekly challenge at Addicted to Stamps where this week's challenge is Anything Goes.

Graduation from Nursing School

A sweet non traditional student just finished her nursing school.  She went part time because she also has a family.  During her time in school, she has also lost an aunt and uncle to cancer.  I am so glad to be celebrating with her and her family tomorrow her graduation.  Everyone is so proud of her.

This is an Art Impressions stamp.  The sentiment is from a Simon Says Stamp set.  I thought the sentiment was perfect.

The Oldie Moldie for today was the Basic Grey paper.  I love the pretty colors in this group.

Mixed Media Mojo Monthly Challenge

The monthly challenge at Mixed Media Mojo is to choose lines from a tic tac board.  The twist is to use every square on the board.  Here is your tic tac board to inspire your creativity.

I chose the middle line:  Gesso, Stencil and Chipboard.  I am behind in my birthday cards so I decided to make a birthday card.

I took a piece of mixed media paper and colored it with a light pink Gelatos.  I then used my clear Gesso (yes there is clear Gesso) and put a layer over my pink color.  I wanted the pink color to be sealed.  I took a stencil and used a watercolor pencil.  I outlines the octagon shapes and colored them in with the watercolor pencil.  I took my water brush and blended the colors.  I added lighter color in other openings.  A second stencil was used to add the silver chevron stripe with silver embossing paste from Faber Castell.

The chipboard is from Basic Grey.  I first colored the chipboard with distress paint.  After it was dry, I inked it up with VersaMark and used a new product called Enamels from The Rubber Cafe.  The color is Sea Glass.  (of course, now I wish I had bought several more colors).  I punched the butterfly and colored it with silver embossing powder.  It is so pretty.  The sentiment was stamped on vellum with the same enamel.  The chipboard was glued to the front of the card with Glossy Accents.  I also used Glossy Accents to adhere the butterfly.

I wasn't quite happy with the color on the card front so on the one side I took my watercolor pencil and added the deeper pink into the openings of the chevron.  I was much happier with the front then.

To finish the card, I matted it in dark gray cardstock.  Wrapped the sentiment around the card front.  Added some silver cord above the sentiment.  The front panel was popped up on the card front.  I then took some enamel dots which are silver glitter (from a Halloween collection) and scattered them around the card front.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Monday - time to show some love to your old supplies.  This is paper from Basic Grey from 2010.  I wanted to make a retirement card for a friend who loves to golf.  Both stamps are old also.  The sentiment is a new die cut from Hero Arts.

I am also entering this card in the April ODBD monthly challenge on the Operation Write Home blog Stars and Stamps.  The challenge is to make a masculine card.

Our Daily Bread Designs will pay postage for up to two boxes of cards to go overseas  to our heroes.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Oldie Moldie Monday - time to use some of your old supplies.  I have had these Penny Black Stickers for awhile and coordinating card stock.  I found a Basic Grey 6 x 6 pad and away we went to make some cards.  I decided I wanted to make my shape a little bit different.

The stickers were tall and narrow so I have them extending off the top of the card.  The dots are card stock with glossy accents on top.  The cards will go to a couple special people.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Who would have thunk that from the Basic Grey paper Collection "Little Black Dress" you could make a masculine card.

I wanted to make a masculine card and I saw this neglected paper pad so grabbed it and wondered was there something I could use because I wanted to stamp my trusty rusty truck stamp in black and use some kraft paper.  I started looking through the pad and found a great plaid and some wonderful stripes.  Plus there was some solid paper to do the stamping on.  Thus the masculine card was born.

This card is going to a fellow cardmaker's son.  His mom makes fantastic cards so hopefully he likes this one.

Friday - More Unity Stamps

Friday - the day I try to share a card I made using a Unity stamp or stamps - the Unity Blog has Friends With Flair on Friday - so I try to play along.  I think it is safe to post my daughter's birthday card here - I would be very surprised if she ever looked at my blog.  Plus she is away for a wedding this week end.

the card is larger than an A2.  This is wonderful paper and had the patterned paper with the little bikes on it so it was perfect to use for this card.  The paper is by Basic Grey.  The stamps are by Unity.  (insert smile here).

I am also going to place it in the Anything Goes challenge on the Wednesday Simon Says Stamp challenge blog.

Paper Smooches, Seize the Sketch and House of Cards Unite

I finally got a card made for the challenge on the Paper Smooches Spark Challenge Blog where anything goes.  This is a great challenge because then you can do anything you want, use any color and design.

Just like most cardmakers, we collect stuff.  I had this cute little monkey in my collection of Paper Smooches Stuff and I wanted to use it.  I have not made my Mom a card for ages so I thought this card would brighten her room at the nursing home.  I got to use some of my favorite colors.  Teal and orange - I was never much of an orange fan until I had a student worker who loved orange and she opened my eyes to it's creative possibilities.

I used the sketch from Seize the Sketch.  A great sketch you can do lots with.

I also am entering it in a new monthly challenge I found - House of Cards.  There challenge is to use a bow.  I don't use lots of bows on my cards because the majority of my cards are for Operation Write Home and I try to keep my bulk down on these cards since they travel so many miles.

The patterned paper is from Basic Grey.  I believe the ribbon is May Arts.  I added some extra hearts in the lower left hand corner of the image.  I fussy cut all the hearts.  The little teal hearts have Glossy Accents on them to make them a little dimensional.  The big heart and the image are pop dotted for more dimension.  Did you see our little monkey has her belly button pierced.  She is such a little rebel.

Everyone Loves Snoopy

This week on CAS(E) This Sketch it was a very simple sketch - but then - CASE is very simple.  You just have to make an impact with what you do on a CASE card.

When I designed my card, I took the design very literally.  I did add some SRM stitch stickers to add a little extra to the card.  I keep thinking I need more.  "Walk away from the card".  The paper is from American Crafts - a Dear Lizzy collection.  I love the ombre look of the paper.  Who does not like Snoopy?  This card and the other two which are very similar will go in my next Operation Write Home box.  They will bring a smile to someone's face.

Wanna Sketch, Oldie Moldie Monday, Basic Grey

It is once again Oldie Moldie Monday - time to show some love to your old supplies.  I have been working on cards using the same 6 x 6 pad from Basic Grey over the last couple weeks.  This week I made a couple cards for Operation Write Home and a card for my own supply.

I based the card for my own use on the sketch from Wanna Sketch.  It is the first time I have played along on this sketch challenge.  Here is the sketch.

Actually not only is this oldie moldie paper, the flowers have been around for a couple years and I have had this sentiment stamp - from a set from Technique Tuesday for years.  I really like the set.  Great for my use and also for Operation Write Home cards.

Here are some simple cards for Operation Write Home.  Some Hero will be able to send this home to their kids.

Oldie Moldie Monday and Friday Mashup Collide

When I saw the challenge on Friday Mashup - I got so excited.  Mix patterned paper.  Sometimes I think I am the queen of combining patterned paper.

We have a new co worker starting in the office.  Several years ago I started making monkey cards for the new employee and leaving it on their desk for their first day.  Welcome to the jungle is what it says on the inside.

I am slowly working on this 6 x 6 pad of Basic Grey paper.  I don't seem to get more than one card made a week out of it.  Busy times here and lots of cards to make.  I finished up a canvas this week for a graduation present and am working on a wedding card for this upcoming week end.

Here is my card with lots of layers of patterned paper.  How many layers are on it?  There are only six layers on this card.  What is your record for layers on a card.

The monkey is from Stampendous.  The patterned paper is from Basic Grey.  I cut the hello from recycled card stock and glued 4 layers together so it has some dimension.  After I glued them together, I used the pile on lots of weight to make sure it dried flat.  The card is a little smaller than the standard A2.  I like it when you can let an element hang over the edge of your card.

Only one card to share today for oldie Moldie Monday.  Same paper pad as last week.  The monkey is by Stampendous.  The sentiment is by Paper Smooches.  My die cut slipped when I was cutting out the sentiment and I was tossing it and then I remembered - slide it under something and it will work.  Sentiment saved.  Card made.  Another card to go into my Operation Write Home box.

Off to plant some plants in the flower bed.  Been busy getting caught up on work outside.

Oldie Moldie Monday, Basic Grey, Paper Smooches and Whipper Snapper Stamps

Little slow this week getting my oldie moldie monday card posted.  I just got it made.  I was very busy last week and then I went and visited my daughter for a couple days.  We had fun and I bought my granddaughter her dress to wear to her brother's wedding.  That was fun.  I had not shopped with a teenager for many years.

The card today uses a stamped image from Whipper Snapper Stamps that I have had colored for ages.  The sentiments are from Paper Smooches.  The paper is from a 6 x 6 pad from Basic Grey - this paper wasn't too old - the date was 2012.

This card will go in my Operation Write Home box.  We always need love and missing you cards so I just combined in the need into one card.

I am sure next week there will be more paper used out of this pad.  Remember to show some love for your old supplies.

Seize the Sketch and Basic Grey

This week on Seize the Sketch challenge blog they have a great sketch.

I needed to make some thank you notes for my daughter.  She has had some wonderful friends who have helped her through a very rough time in her life.  Her good friends came and took care of the dogs many days so Staci was able to be at the hospital with her husband and while the family were with Chris during his final hours, they brought the family food and drink to sustain them through the night.  What can you do to thank a family for such kindness and friendship?

This is my version of the sketch made into a square card.  I thought this image of a dog was very appropriate since one of Staci's dogs is a yellow lab and Axel alias Squirt is also yellow in color.  I just noticed I forgot to color the collar.  I think it will be red.  Both stamps are from Whipper Snapper Stamps.  The paper is from Basic Grey.

Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge

The sketch was up early today on the OWH Stars and Stamps blog so I was able to start my day out creating a card for Operation Write Home.  I still had the brown paper on my tabletop from yesterday's brown card so went with the same color scheme.  I used a different sentiment from the Hero Arts set that supports Operation Write Home.

I am also going to enter this into the Hero Arts Birthday Challenge - this will be in the anything goes category.

Well off to find some breakfast.
