Sparkle With Joy - Or Something Like That

Simon Says "I Love Sparkle" - I do not use too much sparkle or glitter because the majority of my cards are for Operation Write Home and glitter is a big no no - if you want to know why - stop by the Operation Write Home blog to find out.

The challenge for the month at Oozak is also sparkle.

This is a card for my own holiday collection.  I used the sketch from Merry Merry - I somewhat stretched the image from the sketch.  My card is 5 x 3.25.

The image is a Penny Black Sticker - unfortunately with my lousy photo skills - I was unable to pick up the sparkle on the card.  I added Stickles to many dots on the tree.  The Joy was outline with my stardust pen.  The background is embossed with a snowflake embossing folder.  I did use some Bazzill Bling to add color to the card.  A May Arts bow completes the card.

Bunny Card Challenge

A quick challenge on Operation Write Home's Facebook page to make a bunny card - very quick card - using a couple Studio G stamps - $1 each.  It is really not an Easter card so that helps make it less time sensitive.  I embossed the background cardstock (Bazzill Bling) with a Cuddlebug folder - adds some nice dimension to the background.  I cut the scallop with my Silhouette and the background pink circle and flower with Spellbinder Dies.

Silhouette Adventures

I got a Silhouette Cameo at Christmas so now I am beginning to start to play with it.  This is one of the card I made this week end.  I used paper from My Mind's Eye - Everyday Flair and a sticker from SRM Stickers to complete my card.  I colored some pearls to match the pink in the card.

Stampendous + Echo Park + SRM Sticker = Cute

It has taken Blogger forever to upload this card.  Finally - I am now exhausted from the waiting.

Stampendous has a monthly challenge to make a Clean and Simple Holiday card - and I ran across this image that was already colored - the colors match (fairly well) the colors in the Holly Jolly Christmas collection from Echo Park.  I found the 6 x 6 pad last week end.  Fun designs - I even bought a couple sheets of the 12 x 12 of the designs I knew I would use lots of. 

This is also the sketch from Card Positioning System (kinda) - I couldn't cover up the image with a rectangle over the top so I left that part of the sketch off.  An SRM Sticker was added to complete the card.  The stripes were pop dotted and then the image was pop dotted double. 

Also entered this in the CREATE magazine chevron challenge.

Looking forward to the week end and getting something done.  I did some cleaning/clearing out - I believe there will be a trip to Goodwill in my future.  Everyone have a wonderful week end.

Traditional Resist Technique

I want to share a card I made in the class I am taking online Inspiration Showcase with Jennifer McGuire.  Such fun - but I am still working on cards from the first two lessons - but I have been happy with what I have accomplished so far.    This card is "Traditional Resist Technique" - I stamped with Versamark on glossy paper, let it dry and then rubbed a distress ink over it.  I did the same technique on the sentiment.  I couldn't find any paper to match the blue - so I made my own by rubbing the distress ink on the size square I needed.  The image is pop dotted .  A bow and a few pearls were added to the front of the card. 

I am going to enter this card in the resist challenge on Lily Pad cards.

It rained today and I did not get a picture taken of the card I made in which I embossed on canvas - come back in the next couple days to see that and other cards using resist.

More Penny Black Sticker Fun

I am continuing on my week of stickers.  Thank you CAS-ual Fridays for challenging me to make a card with stickers and I decided to just keep going. 

Today's card is based on the weekly sketch at Operation Write Home's card blog Stars and Stamps.  The ribbon is sheer so should flatten down to go in the mail.  The image is pop dotted.  I used the Bazzill dots paper to add some texture to the card.  I think I am getting better at this CAS - I think I am going to have to look for some more great white paper - I imagine you could use creams also.

The sticker is from Penny Black.  I do have a love affair with her stickers and really enjoy using them - I just need to get them out and do it.

More Penny Black Sticker fun

Good afternoon - beautiful day in Wisconsin - bought some groceries - mowed some of my lawn - neighbor boy mowed majority of remaining lawn.  Now time to play with some paper.  I still have my stickers out and working on using up this sheet of Penny Black stickers - I think I have 3 more snowmen on the sheet.  It helps me get some Winter themed cards made for Operation Write Home plus I am using up that sticker sheet.

This card was suppose to have a sticker trim on it - but it did not go on straight so the design of the card changed up some.  I really like how it turned out.  I tried to do a more Clean and Simple one for the challenge on CAS-ual Friday to use stickers in a CAS style.  This is probably more CAS than yesterday's cards.

OWH Kit SKIP

Good morning – welcome to the first Operation Write Home SKIP – you say – what is a SKIP – a SKIP – is a mini HOP. OWH has wonderful blog hops but with a SKIP 10 card makers are going to focus in on a certain creative idea, a specific product, etc.

This SKIP was a kit challenge. I sent the same kit to 10 people. The kit included 4different patterned papers that coordinate and the same stamped image. It will be interesting to see how each of us make our card. We could use our own embellishments, ribbon, card base, etc.

I colored my image with Copics. I matched the color of my flower to the purple that is in the patterned paper. I used Bazzill cardstock for my card base. I die cut my image with one of my Spellbinders. I then chalked the background of my stamped image so it wasn’t so bare or stark white. I learned this in a class – I really like the softness of the chalked sky.

I had bought a new Spellbinder set and wanted to use it on the card – that is the green on the bottom of the card. I matted the colored image with one of the patterned papers. I left an extra large area on top of the mat. I wanted to add some trim or ribbon in this area. The trim I decided on was a pleated ribbon. I adhered it with red line tape. I cut a narrow strip of paper to cover the top of the ribbon. When I placed all the layers on the card base – the card base looked flat – so I used a background stamp and just stamped with Versamark on the card front – it adds some depth or design to the plain colored base.
I added a brad on each side of the image. I pop dotted the image to give it a little depth. I placed a sticker on the same color paper as my bottom mat and pop dotted it also. I really like how my card turned out.

I hope you are excited to continue on the skip to see how everyone else made their cards. I can’t wait. I saw one of the cards a couple weeks ago – it is fantastic.

Good Tuesday afternoon - I am being a slackard today - I decided to take a day of vacation from work and not fight the winter storm - one more day tomorrow and I know tomorrow will be much worse - a blizzard is heading our way. I took a nap already today and that felt so good. Hopefully tonight I can stay up past 8 p.m. and get back on a normal sleeping pattern.

I wanted to make a bright, happy card today. I had colored this digi image "Daisy With Bea" from I Brake for Digis so I needed to find some fun paper to make a card with. This grouping from My Mind's Eye has such pretty colors in it. No yellow but a beautiful orange, blue and pink. I was able to pick up on the yellow with my accent pieces and placed my thank you sticker on a punched flower that I added color with Copics and then inked the edges to bring some orange onto the punched flower. I pop dotted the image and sentiment to balance the depth of the bow and big brad.

The design of the card is based on the sketch from Unscripted Sketches - a very fun sketch - lots of layers - and I am all about the layers.

Good Saturday evening. We had our first snow of the season - luckily it was not too heavy. I went to get my snowblower ready to go - filled the gas tank - primed the engine - went in the house - I know I need to prime the engine awhile before it will start. I started smelling gas - all the gas - drained out of the snowblower onto the garage floor. Yuck - it was not on my list of things to scrub the garage floor. My car probably reeks - I will have to move it outdoors tomorrow and open up the windows to air it out. Now I need to get the snowblower repaired. Not something I wanted to do.

I needed a gift card holder - so put together one - it is the challenge at Caardvarks - the challenge ends today. Boy I made it under the wire.

I am not too talky tonight - tired - had to shovel the sidewalk and driveway - but little Mr. Hunter - 9 year old neighbor - came over to help me shovel and then another neighbor showed up and helped and we had it done. It only cost me some hot cocoa.

Hopefully I will be able to find some time to create - I need to get Christmas cards in the mail and I need two birthday cards. Gotta get busy.

Good Sunday morning - dreary wet morning in Wisconsin. The days of taking pictures of your cards outside or in sunshine - I think will not return until May 2011 so I apologize for my even worse photography.

I went to a stamp show in Madison yesterday. I bought one set of stamps and some 6 x 6 pads of paper. I also picked up a couple new Sizzix embossing folders - I had wanted the Basic Grey one that says Merry Christmas on it and I got it. Yeah. I actually used one of the new ones on my card. I have several snowflake embossing folders.

My card today is based on the sketch at "The Sweet Shop" - a new sketch each Saturday. This challenge has the twist of finishing the inside of your card. The sketch called to me - all those layers - love layers. I also had this image colored so I wanted to use it. I love those little snowmen. I hope I can find the stamp to tell you who makes it - it is an older stamp. I used my new snowflake embossing folder on this card. I tried something new on the inside that I had seen before on Operation Write Home. Embossing your image - well I just embossed my sentiment and even my signature - I added the signature before I embossed because I thought it may be a little difficult to write on the embossed inside.

Well - one more Holiday card made - everyone enjoy the remainder of today.

Good Tuesday morning - hmmmmm - feels like a Monday. Back to the rat race of work. My assistant returns today so that is wonderful. I want this kind of job when I retire - work two days a week - 9 months of the year - and have a wonderful boss like me.

My goal is to make 30 cards this month for Operation Write Home - so I have to make several cards a day to keep caught up - I did get caught up over the week end - but for some reason I now think I am behind. Dang. I want to get my halloween cards in the mail by the end of this week - I don't have too many - but they do need to get there. I also have some multiple of cards that need to be finished - the prototype is done - now to finish the others I started.

My cards today look very spring like. I am a great fan of Penny Black stickers so thought I would use some of them for some quick colorful cards. The first card is based on the sketch from Operation Write Home's card blog - Stars and Stamps - and as long as the paper is out you might as well make another card also.

Good Monday Morning - Happy Halloween - oops somewhat early - but if you are doing cards for Operation Write Home - you need to get your cards for holidays done ahead of time, sent to the shippers so they can be mailed overseas. I believe September 20 is the deadline for Halloween cards.

I do have a small collection of Halloween papers so thought I would make a few - I don't have too many Halloween stamps though. Digging into my stash - well aged stash - I found these Bo Bunny Stickers and the paper is from Stemma. I had a package of Bazzill (orange shades) that provided the card bases. Together I was able to make 3 very simple Halloween cards - I am sure they will bring a smile to a soldier and whoever he sends the card to.

Well since I have used up 3 stickers and some of two sheets of patterned paper and the Bazzill which is the card bases - I need to go shopping again. No work today but a day of fun - I wonder what good things I can find. Everyone enjoy your day.

I made these card for submissions for holiday cards this year but unfortunately no one wanted my quick and easy card idea. Operation Write Home - on their card blog - Stars and Stamps - the mid week throw down is Christmas - this is such an easy way to get holiday cards with not lots of work. The main focus of the card is a gift tag bought in the tag section - I bought these at Hobby Lobby last year. Kraft is the new "in" neutral so I wanted to play off that.

I made a card base out of kraft paper. Cut green paper to lay on top and then embossed a strip of red cardstock with the Cuddlebug. All the papers were inked with white ink - you can also dry brush white acrylic paint on the edges. I inked around the edges of the tags also.

Card one: the sentiment is right on the tag. All I added was the small green circle to cover the hole on top of the tag and added bling to match the other bling.

Card Two: I used my Prismacolor white colored pencil and highlighted parts of the ornament. The sentiment was a rub on. Once again I added the circle and bling to cover the hole on top.

Now wasn't that an easy way to make some holiday cards - so when the holiday tags are on the shelves - make sure you peruse them thinking about card making. Also if you shop when they are on sale - you can get so much creativity for a small price. I believe I paid $1 for 12 tags (6 of each design) I bought some different ones - but if they have glitter on them - they can not be used for Operation Write Home. Operation Write Home will be getting the majority of these cards but I will have to save a few for my own holiday cards.

Everyone enjoy your day - I am not working - so I am smiling but I am getting estimates on a new furnace/AC unit - so that doesn't make me happy but I will have all my estimates in one day.

Yeah it is Thursday - one day closer to the week end - I can do it - yes I can - although I really think I should go work some this week end - YUCK!!!

So what does a cardmaker do when given a pile of scraps after making cards from a coordinated group of papers - she makes more cards.

Good Wednesday morning – waiting for the repair person to come for the furnace/AC unit. It is time for it’s yearly check up – plus it has a little problem. I think we have hot muggy weather coming in for the end of the week so want the AC to be working. Of course, I hide in my basement lots of the time to play with paper so that offers some relief from the hot/muggy conditions. I always want to try and do something creative every day – well tonight – I think it may be laundry – work has been exhausting me this last month – but July is coming – I have a few quiet days for the year in July. Try to work some short weeks in July, etc. I just need to make it to July.

Today I am showcasing cards that I made for the midweek throwdow on the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes. The challenge is to use bling – I dug through my bling – of course – had to buy more bling (thus blog candy). I have made 3 cards for today’s post.

Glitter is a no no for OWH cards but bling bling isn’t. There is lots of bling in the stores also. Michael’s even has some in their $1 bins sometimes. The flourishes can be expensive but in cardmaking you can make a flourish decorate several cards.

Good Sunday evening - where did the week end go - I still have a whole day of work to do and I should be in bed by 10 - gotta hit the deck running at work - lots of work to accomplish - plus I am going to serve my birthday treat - a berry trifle - of course - I can not find my recipe - so we are going to wing it. Summer has hit - we are in the 90's right now and I guess I need to turn on my air conditioner - I don't want to do that. But I may have to if I want to sleep tonight.

I did get some creating done today. I would love to just spend a day creating but alas that is not to happen.

My card started out based on the Tuesday sketch at A Crafty Little Place and then I started assembling it - the strips going around the edge did not work on my card. I do love how the card turned out. It is for the Mom of my friend Shari who died this week from cancer. I wanted her to know she was in my thoughts - as a mother - I can't believe how hard it would be to have a child die before you did.

Good afternoon - I left work early for a dentist appointment and since I had not gotten a reminder I thought I would call quick before I left home - they had not put it into their books - I do have an appointment card for it - so now I guess I can run some errands. Oh my - I am just glad I was not snowed under at work and left for nothing.

Today's card is the second of 3 thank yous for 3 very special women who spent so much time with my friend Shari this last year battling breast cancer - a fight - Shari lost on Tuesday morning. Our hearts are heavy but she is at peace. These 3 women did so much for our Ya Ya sister to help her this last year that we wanted to thank them for all the caring and love they showed her. I want them to know they were appreciated.

It was based on the weekly sketch at Card Patterns Sketch 64.

Friendship is such a job - if you find it - treasure it and nurture it.

Good Tuesday morning - I don't know if posting in the morning is that good of an idea - I really don't have too much to say when I just get out of bed and haven't had my first cup of coffee.

My cards today are dragonfly cards - Taylor is having a dragonfly card call on her site. You can stil send her cards - I think if you look you will be surprised at the number of stamps you have that are dragonflies. I actually found a beautiful set of paper from Kaiser Scrapbooking that I have used on many of my cards. I have used all this group of paper now. The first card is also based on the weekly sketch at Taylored Expressions.
