Good Saturday morning - now why doesn't my body know it is Saturday and let me at least sleep till 6 in the morning. Unfortunately or fortunately I am an early riser - I can get lots done by waking early. I hope to make some quick cards this morning for Operation Write Home. More on that later in the post.
Today's card is based on the sketch at A Crafty Little Place. There is also a challenge on the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes to use wiggle eyes. The sketch called for the three design elements on the right side - and I had to use some more wiggle eyes. This is the last of this Basic Grey halloween paper. I really like it - I may have to pick up some more for my Halloween grouping.
Operation Write Home is celebrating their birthday. If you don't know about Operation Write Home - they gather handmade cards from people across the US and world, and boxes of cards are sent to our troops overseas. This helps our troops stay in touch with their families and friends at home. Even if you are not a cardmaker - they could use donations to help cover the cost of shipping these cards overseas.
Hero Arts is playing along all week end on their Flicker Site - they have many challenges to get your creative juices flowing. You could also win prizes. I am going to post this card over there because it calls for 3 of anything - well I have 3 wiggle eyes in the corner.
Come play along - just think if you made 10 cards and sent them in - that is 10 soldiers and 10 more lucky family or friends who get some mail. This is a gift that keeps on giving. One quote on the OWH site is that the children slept with the cards from their parent under their pillows. That is a creation that just keeps on giving.
Everyone have a creative week end - take some time to make some cards for OWH - play along with Hero Arts challenges. Use some of your supplies.
Card Details:
Paper: Basic Grey
Stamp: Whipper Snapper Designs colored with Copics
SRM Sticker

Good Saturday - I gave myself permission just to play today. I have been working around the house the last two days so I thought I deserved a little play time. Stay tuned the remainder of the upcoming week for some of the things I have been playing with. I have been playing with a dictionary, paint, die cuts, ink - just having lots of fun.

I have a jump start on a September birthday. Kristin and Hunter (neighbor children) have the same birthday - September 12 - same age - so this is Kristin's card. All the balloons have glitter on them - Kristin loves glitter. Kristin likes to make cards also. She does a great job also. She loves to learn new things. I need to have her come over and play again soon.

The Tuesday challenge on A Crafty Little Place is color - pink, green and blue. I had bought a 6 x 6 pad of SEI paper and the colors in the pad worked perfectly for this challenge. I had one sticker left on a page of Penny Black stickers - I love this little kitty with her balloons. Add some sentiment stickers from SRM Stickers and you have a great birthday card. The base was a precut Bazzill rectangle.

Everyone enjoy the remainder of your Saturday - I need to get some more playing done.

Sunday - it is never a day of rest - it is the day to get ready for the work week. I did get groceries early today. Have already made a pan of roasted carrots for the week. Yummy. Roasted the beets I got in my CSA box. Later on I will do some grilling so I have food for a couple days this week. We have a potluck on Tuesday at work so I am going to take a taco salad - I got the meat ready today also. If I am going to make dirty dishes - I might as well make lots of them.

Yesterday I went to a baby shower. The baby got many beautiful clothes - she will be styling. We also snuck in a little shopping and had a wonderful lunch at Panera. We visited my daughter at her store so that was fun to see her. She was a little surprised to see me in her store.

Today's card is for one of neighborhood children. Lexi is a member of the backwards family - which is not an insult - it just means that their cards always open backwards. The first card I made for the family was done that way so now it is a tradition. They would be very disappointed if I made a card that opened in a traditional way for them. The card is based on the sketch at A Craft Little Place - they always have fun sketches but unfortunately I do not always get a chance to play.

Well I must go - I want to get some more cards made for Operation Write Home - if you want to make cards for a worthwhile cause - here it is - one cards makes so many people happy and if you can bring a smile to a serviceman and the family or friends he or she has left behind - how good of a feeling is that. Take the time to check this worthwhile cause out. They even have a card blog with a Sunday sketch challenge and a midweek throwdown.

Everyone enjoy your Sunday. The sun is shining but it is very windy here.

Good Sunday afternoon - I got up today and played with some paper. I was on the road yesterday visiting my Mom so when I came home I ended up with a 2 hour nap - watched TV for a couple hours and then back to sleep. It is hot and muggy here and wet. Had some storms go through this morning - I guess it is going to be beautiful the remainder of the week - the heat and humidity are leaving. Yeah. I prefer not to have the AC on. Takes away from my money for paper - because you know I don't have enough.
Today's card is for my friend Shari's mom - Shari lost her battle with breast cancer in May and I hear that Mae is struggling - as any mother would be who loses a child - no matter what age our child is - 6 months, 6 years or 60. I want Mae to know that I am thinking of her. I made many monkey cards for Shari during her battle this last year so it will bring a smile to Mae and remember all the love we shared for Shari.
The card is based on the sketch at A Crafty Little Place - haven't been able to play the last few weeks with their sketches. I sure hate it when work robs you of your creativity.
Come back tomorrow to see the cards for Oldie Moldie Monday using the sketch from Operation Write Home. Everyone enjoy your Sunday.

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Good Sunday evening - where did the week end go - I still have a whole day of work to do and I should be in bed by 10 - gotta hit the deck running at work - lots of work to accomplish - plus I am going to serve my birthday treat - a berry trifle - of course - I can not find my recipe - so we are going to wing it. Summer has hit - we are in the 90's right now and I guess I need to turn on my air conditioner - I don't want to do that. But I may have to if I want to sleep tonight.

I did get some creating done today. I would love to just spend a day creating but alas that is not to happen.

My card started out based on the Tuesday sketch at A Crafty Little Place and then I started assembling it - the strips going around the edge did not work on my card. I do love how the card turned out. It is for the Mom of my friend Shari who died this week from cancer. I wanted her to know she was in my thoughts - as a mother - I can't believe how hard it would be to have a child die before you did.

Everyone have a wonderful evening. Stop back tomorrow for Oldie Moldie Monday. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Good Sunday afternoon - sorry for being missing in action - lots going on at work and at home this last week. Creativity sometimes just does not get a chance to happen. Today I decided I needed to indulge in some paper therapy to put some balance in my life.

Yesterday was a very full day - first graduation in the morning (graduation is my professional life) and then a birthday party at my house for me given by my daughters. It was a good time with family and friends to share the day with me and celebrate life, love, friendship and family.

I have a special group of friends and we call ourselves the Ya Ya's. One of our Ya Ya's is in the final stages of losing her battle with breast cancer. If you have been following my blog you have seen the cards I have made Shari through the last year. I have tried to send her a card every week - a few have been boughten - because sometimes you need the humor you can find in some cards - cards to make a person giggle and smile. Today's card may be the last card I make Shari - it was hard to make - but even though she might not know she got her card - I know she got her weekly card.

My card is based on the Sketch at A Crafty Little Place (formerly known as Die Cuts R Us) - a very simple sketch but with so many possibilities. I decided to create a sentiment on my computer. I had seen the statement - I am a much better person for having known you - and Shari has made me a better person in the way she lived her life and the way she fought her battle.

Everyone have a good day - take the time to touch base with a friend - be it with a call or a card - let them know you care.
