Cath Edvalson - You Are Moxie Fab

How do you say thank you to someone who has had such a Moxie Fab impact on card making and paper crafts in general.  Of course, we are talking about Cath Edvalson who has written the Moxie Fab blog for so many years and we are going to have the best dang blog hop just for her to celebrate all she has done to inspire our creativity.

Today I am sharing a card with many layers of paper and ribbon.  My paper is from Authentique.  The sentiment is a favorite from Hero Arts.

Cath is so special.  The day I got the e mail from her asking if I wanted to be a Moxie Fabber - my jaw dropped.  How special Cath made me feel that day in choosing me and then being spotlighted for something you love.  Thank you Cath - you made my year.

Hello Paper - I Missed You

I was on vacation last week - I was in Orlando, Florida - and it was so nice and warm - even got a little sun - but alas Wisconsin is not that warm.  I am able to have the back patio door open today - the sun is shining in so able to keep the door open for some fresh air in the house.

I missed my paper so it was good to play again.  Today I made some cards for my Oldie Moldie Monday cards but also came up with this card to do a couple challenges.

The first challenge is from The Paper Players to use something "recycled in your project".  Actually all the paper is recycled on this card.  The paper is a nice cardstock used in our commencement programs - I went through after the ceremony and picked up a bunch of them - I would have liked to pick up more - but you can only do so much in a limited amount of time.  The chevron paper is done using a Studio Calico mask and Mr. Huey mists.  The flower was cut with the Silhouette.  The top layer of the flower was pop dotted to add some dimension.

The second challenge was from CAS-UAL Friday to use chevrons and flowers.

I don't know if you saw it last week but I was Moxie Fabber of the Week.  How special to be chosen for that.

Twinkling H2O's, Ombre Colors, and Moxie Fab

I had been attempting to make my boss a card since Thursday and nothing was coming together for me.  She was finally recognized for all her hard work and leadership so I wanted to make a card for her from her staff.  She does appreciate my cards and has several that she keeps on display in her office - which is very nice of her.

Purple is Whitewater's colors so that is why I went with the color purple and of course black is a great accent color.

Moxie Fab World has a challenge for Ombre - and you might ask what is Ombre - and this is the definition from the Moxie Fab World blog - What is ombre you might ask? Well, ombre is when color graduates from light to dark on a surface.  If you flip the panel on my card it is going from light to dark but I chose to put the dark on top.

I got out my Twinkling H2O's to make my background - my friend Ivanka - does such a wonderful job using her Twinkling H2O's.  I first tried chalk and ink.  I was going to try acrylic paints but I did not have any purple.  There sat the Twinkling H2O's and thus began my creative journey to make my background.  To get the darker colors you just add less water to your paints and paint over the top and build your colors.  The stamp is from a large acrylic set which I bought years ago but I thought this image was fun - somewhat elegant.  There are a few specks of embossing powder where they should not be (dang).  Everything was matted with black.  Some black houndstooth ribbon was added and a few black jewels.  A sentiment from SRM Stickers finishes off the card.

Well off to do a few things and then head out to see my Mom today - now ice on the roads this morning but snow in the forecast for tomorrow.  On that YUCKY note - everyone have a wonderful day.

Studio Calico Card Class - You've Got Mail

I am taking an online card class at Studio Calico called  - You've Got Mail.  It is a month long class - the cost was only $29 and you got an acrylic stamp set.  I just got my stamp set so I had to use it - plus I recently had purchased some of their mists and when I looked in my drawer - I found a mask from Studio Calico also.  The pink floral paper is made using the mists and mask.  I misted the same paper for the sentiment so the color would match.  The sentiment is from the stamp set.

The paper is a Studio Calico 6 x 6 pad.  I decided I wanted to also try the splatter technique with the mists - I am not sure I like it.  This morning I touched the lower left corner and the dot smeared - it had not dryed overnight (maybe a little too much) - but luckily since it was a block of white - I found a piece of the same white I had practiced the splatter on so but it to fit and placed it there - smear solved.

I had created a rectangle with the mist and mask but did not like it as a rectangle so decided to cut a couple circles.  I then added the strips of paper along the right side of the card front.  The teal stripe is washi tape that I placed on paper and then added to my card.

Since I used washi tape I am entering it in the Moxi Fab challenge to use washi tape.  They are featuring their new issue - Card Creations - I have bought the magazine but put it away for my vacation - something for me to drool over on the plane.

Itty Bitty Cards

Moxie Fab World is having a challenge for "itty bitty cards" - the largest they can be is 3 x 3.  They have a new special edition titled "75 Creative Card Challenges" - hmmm must find this magazine.  

I decided to make a little valentine card.  I bought a new paper pad at Target last night (wow I got stuff to make chili and a paper pad in the same store - how great is that).  The paper pad is from American Crafts - isn't that the sweetest houndstooth.  The stamp is a $1 stamp I got somewhere.  Added some twine and a pearl.  These little cards are fun.

Oldie Moldie Monday - Moxie Fab Journaling Card Challenge

Moxie Fab World is sponsoring a group of challenges in honor of their new special edition - Paper Crafting Tips and Tricks.  One of the challenges is to use your journaling cards.

I knew I had this Christmas collection from Echo Park Paper Company - I don't think it is that oldie moldie - maybe a collection from last year - but I know it is not new - so it qualified for oldie moldie Monday.  Plus I know have one more Christmas card made.  Yeah.  Lots of fun layering.  I used three journaling cards on this card.  Two of the cards I matted with red to make them pop a little more.  The sentiment is pop dotted.  I added the little squares to fill in the corners of two of the cards.  I think it adds the finishing touch along with the bow.

Thanks for stopping by - and remember to show some love for some of that older paper - it is still pretty and makes wonderful projects.  I do need to retire so I can make lots of cards every day to use up my supply of paper.  I love paper.

Hello Monkey

Good afternoon - had the day off work - I ran one errand today - and then have hung out at home - have not accomplished much so I need to get something done.  I did make a card - the midweek throw down on Stars and Stamps (Operation Write Home card blog) is to make a card using monkeys.  I have lots of monkey stamps - and I need to get them out and make cards and make people smile.

The other challenge I am entering this in is on the Moxie Fab Blog - there are celebrating the release of their new issue - Stamp It - and one challenge on Moxie Fab is a Hello card.

Moxie Fab Challenge and Retro Sketches

day off from work - unfortunately I did not get as much done as I wanted so I guess I had better stay up all night and be very busy.  Yeah right - I will go put in a load of laundry as soon as I do this post - of course - on a day off you needed to play with paper.  Come back tomorrow for the other playing I did today - quite happy with that also. 

One job I did do today is tear apart some things so I had all this scrap bright colored paper in my scrap bin.  Yeah for me because Moxie Fab has a challenge to use your scraps - I was luckly I had a big piece of the yellow.  I embossed the bright colors except for the two pieces which were stamped.  I kinda wish I had embossed the very bottom of the pink also. 

The design of the card is based on the sketch from Retro Sketches - luckily I had all those bright colored scraps that worked for the sketch.  I made the card for Operation Write Home so I know it will be much appreciated. 



The bird stamp is Inkadinkado and the sentiment is a favorite Hero Arts Stamp.

I love long week ends.  



Don't throw It Away Challenge

Happy Saturday - yes Easter is next week - so I guess I should be making a few Easter cards. 

Each of my daughters has a favorite candy for Easter and you can usually find some form of it at each holiday.  For one it is Reeses Peanut Butter eggs - so this morning - off to Alaska went a card with tulips on it and two packages of peanut butter eggs.  Even when you are in your 30's and far from home - you need to have a little hug from your Mom. 

My oldest daughter's favorite candy is Brach's chocolate covered marshmallow bunnies.  It has to be Brach's - not a different brand.  Luckily this candy always has such a cute little cover on it - they changed the bunny this year - must have had to make him more contemporary and with the times.  Well the 2012 bunny - the wrapping - is the focal point of this card. 

Mosie Fab has a challenge "Don't Throw It Away" - well I kept that little bunny and very carefully trimmed it down and adhered to cardboard so I could use it on a card.  I think it is so sweet.

The paper is from Pebbles.  The sentiment is from Stampendous.

Now the big decision - should I go sacrifice more bunnies for more cards - such a decision - I did buy two boxes - one for cards and one for my daughter on Easter Day.

Sympathy Cards

I find that Sympathy cards are so difficult to make - and they are not a card I can make ahead of time.  I do try to make them somewhat personal.  I struggled for several days making this card and I don't know if I am totally happy with it yet. 

I love the background.  I stamped the Hero Arts background stamp in VersaMark and then clear embossed it.  I then rubbed distress inks over it - Blues and greens - to try and give it a tealish color.  I matted it with a dark navy metallic paper.  The sentiment - another Hero Arts Stamp - was stamped on a scrap of the patterned paper I stamped the background on.  It was matted with the navy blue also.  I had this Bazzill bling paper that picked up the blue/green undertones.  The background and sentiment are both pop dotted. 

The flower is made from coffee filters which I cut out with spellbinders - there are four layers of four different sizes that make up the flower.  I colored the coffee filters with distress inks and Perfect Pearl Mists.  I bunched them all up - put a rubber band around them and let them dry for 24 hours.  The ribbon is from my friend Ivanka.

Moxie Fab World has a challenge to use household items on a card - well coffee filters are a household item.  The actually make great flowers and take color from many different mediums.  I will also place it in the Hero Arts monthly challenge for flowers.

Now I need to finish the inside of the card.  I think I then need to just make a card that is not so difficult to design.  Do you struggle making sympathy cards?

Echo Park, Moxie FAB and CAS-ual Friday Join Forces

I have a new Silhouette and the little scallop background is one of the free shapes you get with the machine - I was just playing and cut out this shape - I made it smaller so it could be used on a card.  I decided I had to use it on a card.  The card is based on several challenges - Moxie Fab to use Die Cuts and CAS-ual Friday to use scallops. 

The card uses the Yours Truly collection (6 xs6 pad) from Echo Park.  I love that houndstooth plaid - in fact - I bought a couple extra pieces of that paper.  The die cuts are the Silhouette scallop background and Spellbinders hearts.  The heart and plaid stripe are pop dotted for a little dimension.

Who would have thunk - Christmas papers - for a retirement card?

I was asked to make a retirement card from our Office.  The recipient of the card has worked for the University over 50 years and she has worked in the same position the majority of her years.  Wow - can you imagine - the changes she has seen.  Mind boggling.



This picture is an inspirational image from Moxie Fab World for one of Paper Crafts new special editions - Get Inspired.  This card is my inspiration - I have a greenish houndstooth paper in my card and also the clasp is a pearl and I used a pearl brad in the center of my flower.

The papers for this card are from two different Christmas collection - Melissa Frances and Webster's Pages.  I had to trim the Santa Claus off one paper in two different spots.  The flower is made from old pattern pieces - I have enough pattern pieces to start several greenhouses.  The "thank you stamp" is from Hero Arts.  The three sentiments in this stamp set - have become go to stamps for me.

What a fun idea - a rejection blog hop. Paper Crafts recently had a call for an upcoming Sketch special edition. Every now and then I will send a card or two in for a challenge. I was lucky one of my cards got picked up for the Stamp It issue coming out next fall. But alas I was shown no love this time. I think I read somewhere there were over 2000 submissions - oh my.

Amber is hositng the Rejection Blog Hop on her blog Damask Love. There are lots of beautiful cards on the hop.

A very early Friday morning greeting. This has been one of those weeks that has gone fast but seems to have dragged - as you can see from my lack of posts - a week where there was no creativity. The week end is coming so I hope to spend some time creating - it is suppose to snow - one never knows how much. I am going to get my groceries today and then I can hibernate all week end.

My card today is my 2nd Christmas card of the year. I really like the colors and how it turned out. I used a digi stamp from I Brake For Digis and printed it on three different pattern papers. Using my trusty scissors I cut out the tree and car. I did add some color to the car with my Copics (tires and fender) - I also chalked it with blue - to make the blue on the car a little brighter. I cut out the tree and also added brown chalk to the tree to give it a little more depth. I probably should have added some snow to the branches.

Moxie Fab World is having a paper piecing challenge on their blog in celebration of their special issue Stamp It Techniques. I love the flexibility of using digi stamps for paper piecing - you can make the images a little larger so it is easier to cut and piece.

Well I suppose I need to go and get ready to go to work. I think I can make it to the week end.

Good Friday morning - I have taken a day off from work today and my friend Mary and I are going to go play today - we are going to go do some shopping. I know what I want to get - someone has the new collection called Twig - that is calling to me - Mary is after Tonic punches to go in their border punch thing. Hopefully, then we might have some time to play. We will see.

Today's card - and believe me - it is for the next holiday season - because I am ready for spring. Most of our snow has melted so we can see dirty ground now but I do enjoy being able to see when I back out of my driveway.

The card is being entered into two challenges - the first challenge is from the Penny Black blog to use vellum on a card. I struggled with this one trying to figure out exactly what to do with the vellum - I finally tore what is suppose to look like a hill and embossed it in my Cuddlebug. I aded some Stickles to a few of the snowflakes to give them some glitter. Vellum is hard to adhere without your adhesive showing. The main adhesive is behind Mr. Cutie Petuttie Snowman - I love this stamp from Penny Black. He or she has so much personality.

The second challenge is to make a card using markers from the Moxie Fab World blog. They are highlighting the different areas of stamping from their special edition Stamp It! - I have a card in next year's issue - I am so excited. But back to this card - I colored the snowman with my Copics. Snowmen are so easy to color - sometimes you only need to do a little highlighting on their shape - but this special snowman has a wonderful scarf and hat - this also works great for paper piecing - hmmmmmm - Moxie Fab - does have a challenge on paper piecing also - maybe I should use Mr. Cutie Petuttie Snowman for that challenge. Obviously blue was the color of choice to match the background papers - to add some texture to his scarf - I took the colorless blender and removed color to make it look like the scarf was polka dotted.

Some other highlights of the card are my snowflakes - these are foam snowflakes that I picked up at Michael's. A big bag for a very reasonable price. I love the depth they add to the card. I always add some Stickles to them to make them sparkle. I also took a class recently on using Copics but one of the things I did learn was to use chalk to color your background of your stamped image - the whiteness always bothered me - so I now dig out my chalks and add some color around the stamped image. It is nice to use some of your older supplies.

Good Thursday morning – I have a thank you card to share with you today. JoAnn Fabrics had a contest this last fall called “Craft for a Cause.” Operation Write Home banded together to get the organization into the final three and we did it. It is amazing what you can do as a group. The final three were then voted on by the public - Operation Write Home won second place. For winning second place they received $25,000.

This thank you note is for JoAnn Fabrics. It is made with product from their stores. We have a super store in Madison that is great fun to shop at. In fact, I was there today and bought some holiday gifts.

Moxie Fab has a challenge for Thank You cards in celebration of their new magazine Card Creations so I am going to enter my card in that challenge.

Three months from today - Christimas 2010 will be over with. I wonder did I get my holiday cards made, did I get my house cleaned and did the weather cooperate so we (my family) could all have Christmas together. Only time will tell. I am not looking forward to snow and cold,especially the snow.

Today's post I am sharing a Snowman frame I have made for the holidays. Moxie Fab is celebrating the release of their Cards and More holiday issue and and they have a challenge to create Decor to Make the Season Bright Challenge in the Moxie Fab World I love purple with snowmen. This little snowman is so cute - I love him. I created the polka dots on his scarf and hat using the colorless blender from Copic - it just removed the color and left the polka dots. I stamped the image on one of Basic Grey's plain patterned papers - love to stamp on patterned papers - gives your picture so much more texture and depth. I also colored around the outer part of the sentiment so the color exactly matched the colors used on the snowman.

I found this frame at Michael's - it is a fun frame to use because of the recessed area where you can put patterned paper. I painted a very light brushing of white on the frame and sanded it after the paint was dry. Cut strips of paper to place inside the recessed areas. I did miter the corners so they lined up almost perfectly - must be my years of sewing that make me do things like that.

Good evening - orange you special Holiday Cards. Sometimes it is fun to shake up the world of color that are thought to be traditional for Christmas. I have a young assistant whose favorite color is orange so I have been more open to creating with this color. Teal and orange - make a striking combination.

Moxie Fab World is hosting several challenges in conjunction with their release of the current Holiday Cards and More. The challenge is am entering tonight is the Jolly Holiday Greetings Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. I think these two cards qualify that that challenge - quite Jolly.

Good evening - hope all is well with all of you. Hot and muggy in the lovely state of Wisconsin - although they say better days are coming - yeah.

I had such a lucky day yesterday I think I need to go buy a lottery ticket. I won two different things yesterday - I won stickers from SRM Stickers for a birthday card I made and then I won a collection of paper from Moxie Fab blog. That is exciting. More stuff to play with.

I did find a new way to get rid of Oldie Moldie paper - you dump a cup of coffee down yourself and onto a pile of paper. I actually think my nightgown may have gotten the worse part of the coffee dump.

Todays card is based on the sketch at Get Sketchy. I needed a card for a baby shower this week end. It is going to be a baby girl. How fun to shop for her. I bought this new pad of paper from Hobby Lobby and it has the softest colors in it. It is just a 6.5 x 4.5 pad so just perfect for cardmaking. I believe the blocks on the bottom of the paper resemble the stripes on the sketch. No - I did not do all that stitching - it is part of the paper.

Clear and Simple Sketch

Good morning - busy this morning working around the house - wanted to post a couple cards I made last night. Very simple cards.

Card 2 is based on the sketch at Clean and Simple Stamping - I sometimes have a card time doing Simple so a sketch helps me. I just grabbed scraps out of the scrap bin to make this card - I almost did not have enough of the pink to stamp a sentiment - but luckily I found enough space for this particular sentiment.

Card 1 is just a very simple holiday card. I am loving the kraft paper and the dark brown ink combination. This Hero Art snowflake background stamp is fantastic. The sentiment is from another Hero Arts acrylic set. I have lots of this paper that is used as the backgroun that I stamped on and the matting leftover from a former project - If you look back in my posts you will find more cards using this paper. Actually the block is straight on the card - I was trying to take a picture on the branches of the pine tree and the branch was moving a little.

Luckily Moxie Fab has a challenge for Let's Do Clean and Graphic - I am not for sure if they qualify for the clean (I should not let the brown color cloud my vision correct) - the cards are clean and graphic compared to what I create most of the time.

Everyone enjoy the remainder of your day. Trying to do some cooking today for the remainder of the week. So far I have made a lovely soup (Corn Chowder) it will taste good for lunch - the AC is always cool at work so a warm soup will taste wonderful.
