Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Good Wednesday morning - it is the last day of June - how did that happen - it seems that summer goes much faster than winter. Pretty soon the kids will be heading back to school - don't tell any of them that - I don't think they are bored yet. My deck seems to be a favorite spot for the neighborhood children to congregate. They come sit around my table - sometimes even when I am not around - sometimes they come for popscicles. I enjoy listening to their chit chat. I am suppose to be getting a pedicure one night from the two oldest girls - I am sure I will have the most unique toes around but it will be time spent together.

My card today is based off two challenges. The sketch blog for OCC (Our Creative Corner) and the challenge at the OCC blog - to make a blue and green card. I am late getting Ben's card done - his birthday always comes in the middle of May madness. He is one of the neighbor children. Ben loves his sports and plays baseball - thus the baseball theme. This is a font I found on the internet many years ago - it makes great guy cards.

Well another day of work - check engine light came on in the car on the drive home last night - now I need to deal with that issue. Of course, by the time I got home, the dealer was already closed for the day.

Everyone have a wonderful day.

Good Tuesday morning - The weather is gorgeous here in Wisconsin - it would be a perfect day to play hooky from work - but I can not do that. I guess I will just need to make sure I get out for a walk on breaks.

I made this card based on the sketch at Clean and Simple Stamping Sketch Site - I tried to just use patterned paper for the big image but it did not work - I do love this Santa stamp and thought it would be a good time to get started on Christmas cards for Operation Write Home - I love the muted look to this card.

Well it is time to get ready for work. Everyone enjoy your Tuesday.

Oldie Moldie Monday June 28, 2010

Operation Write Home Stars and Stripes Sketch Card

Scrap Card

Scrap Card

Good Monday Morning – work is under control so I do not need to head out the door before 6 in the morning. Back to an 8 hour day. Yeah – now if I could just sleep that extra time or maybe I should get up and exercise – I think that last word is a four letter word.

Enjoyed Sunday – worked around the house and did some card making. It always feels good to have some paper therapy.

My card today is based on the sketch at Stars and Stripes – the Operation Write Home card making blog. A very nice sketch.

Well it is Monday – so that means it is Oldie Moldie Monday – actually these are scraps leftover from another project from some time ago. I made a card for Sunday’s post and now I have three more cards – the scraps are all gone. I hardly had enough to finish the inside of Sunday’s card. I loved this paper – it has such bright, happy colors. Add some flowers and stickers and some cool bling brads I found on clearance at Michael’s and you have created some fun cards.

Please join my friend Ivanka and I as we strive to use up some of our supplies – thus the birth of Oldie Moldie Monday – we even have a Flicker gallery in which you can post your creations.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Good Sunday afternoon - I got up today and played with some paper. I was on the road yesterday visiting my Mom so when I came home I ended up with a 2 hour nap - watched TV for a couple hours and then back to sleep. It is hot and muggy here and wet. Had some storms go through this morning - I guess it is going to be beautiful the remainder of the week - the heat and humidity are leaving. Yeah. I prefer not to have the AC on. Takes away from my money for paper - because you know I don't have enough.
Today's card is for my friend Shari's mom - Shari lost her battle with breast cancer in May and I hear that Mae is struggling - as any mother would be who loses a child - no matter what age our child is - 6 months, 6 years or 60. I want Mae to know that I am thinking of her. I made many monkey cards for Shari during her battle this last year so it will bring a smile to Mae and remember all the love we shared for Shari.
The card is based on the sketch at A Crafty Little Place - haven't been able to play the last few weeks with their sketches. I sure hate it when work robs you of your creativity.
Come back tomorrow to see the cards for Oldie Moldie Monday using the sketch from Operation Write Home. Everyone enjoy your Sunday.

Good Friday evening - yeah it is Friday - the week end awaits us - hot and muggy here. I think it would be a good idea to stay inside and stay cool. I see the light at the end of the tunnel at work so that makes me feel even better.

Today's card is a birthday card for a July birthday. Trying to get ahead a little bit - I still have 2 May birthdays to make. This card started out as a sketch card but I did not like it - too much of the background was showing so once I layered all this stuff on top I was more happy with it. This container of Cosmo Cricket that I bought at Tuesday Morning is going to give me lots of fun cards. I did not have a cream colored flower so I put some white flowers in tea and made them a little creamy. I like how they turned out. I have seen where people color white flowers with their copics also. I will have to try that someday.

Well I am hungry and am going to go and try to eat a nice salad for dinner. Everyone enjoy your week end and I hope you find some time to be creative.

Good evening - interesting day at work - got to work at 6:30 this morning - try to get soem work before the hustle bustle of the work day begins - unfortunately we had no power - so I had work I could do - found some auxiliary lights and worked under them and then was light enough I could work in my office near a window. The power finally came on at 10:30. No e mail until 1 and I finally left at 3 - our system had still not come up and I had exhausted what I could work on so I went shopping and spent money. Needed some things for vacation.
Tonight's card is based on the sketch at Get Sketchy. A simple design that you can lots with. I got this grouping of Cosmo Cricket at Tuesday Morning - and there was lots of goodies in the package - and so far I have only made two cards out of it - I must get busy. The paper is 8 x 8 so I just folded it in half - and cut it down to 5 1/2 inches in length.
Everyone have a wonderful evening.

CPS Sketch

Close Up of Flower

Good Tuesday evening. Hot and muggy here in Wisconsin and more storms to come tonight - I wonder how much sleep I will get tonight. Went out to dinner with the Ya Ya's - it was the first outing where Shari was not with us - we had a chair for her at the table - and the other Barb - brought us all funny hats - some lady thought we were headed to a Jimmy Buffet concert - my hat was a monkey - because I made Shari monkey cards many times in the last year to cheer her - unfortunately I never got a chance to use all of them - I need to make a monkey card each week - continue on - and try to cheer someone. Send a card for just no reason.
Tonight's card is based on the sketch at Card Positioning Systems. I knew I wanted to use this paper and this sketch had so many lovely layers. This is all patterned paper with some lace and a sticker added. I had found these buttons at JoAnn's and knew they would work with this paper also. The flower is cut from sewing pattern pieces - I sewed in a prior life - so have lots of pattern tissue paper. I cut many layers with Spellbinders and then crinkled them up. I threaded the button with thread and tied it off in the back.
Well it is time to get myself organized for tomorrow. Morning comes way too early when you leave the house before 6 a.m..
Card Details:
Size: 5 x 7
Paper: Graphic 45
Lace: unknown
Pearls: Prima (these pearls were white but I just rubbed brown chalk ink across them and aged them.

Oldie Moldie Monday June 21, 2010

Operation Write Home Stars and Stripes weekly sketch

Give a cardmaker scraps

Digital Image

Tis Monday - Oldie Moldie Monday - time to dig into your well loved supplies of paper and show the older paper some creative love. Actually last week I dug into my pink/brown drawer - yes I have an entire drawer of pink/brown papers - and made some cards using the digital image in the last card. I made 3 cards and left enough paper for Oldie Moldie Monday. It is amazing how many cards you can make from several sheets of coordinating paper. Please join Ivanka and I in Oldie Moldie Monday creations - and share your creations on our Flicker gallery.
The first card is based on the sketch at the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes. Another fun sketch - of course - I was lazy again - and just cut a block of paper and put a strip of paper through it to resemble the sketch. Much easier for me than trying to align two blocks and make them straight. I actually used two new stamps on my cards today. I like those stamps where you just stamp - no coloring needed - makes a card come together so much easier and faster.
Hot and muggy here - and did I tell you - I need to get a new AC unit - yuck - and of course it is suppose to be very hot this week. Yuck.
Everyone enjoy your day.

Saturday June 19, 2010

Good Saturday afternoon - I got some cards made last night and one this morning - had to wait for some sunshine to take the pictures - the sun wasn't quite perfect. Notice the difference in the green color in the two cards - one card was angled a different way - in the afternoon - it is a perfect spot to shoot pictures. It is also very windy out so I took many pictures of cards falling down this morning. I do not attest to being a photographer. Digital does help though - delete and the bad shots are gone.
I have had this sheet of paper laying around for awhile - loved the paper - double sided from Scenic Route. Perfect for birthday cards. SRM Stickers is having a blog hop this week end and they have a sketch - the sketch worked perfectly with the paper I had. I just had to alter the sketch a little. As long as the papers were out, I made a second birthday card. I love the bright colors in this paper. The circles are fussy cut from a piece of the paper - otherwise the card looked naked.
I did make another card this morning before I ran some errands. Home to do some housework and then I have a birthday date with one of my neighborhood grandchildren - they get $20 and we go shopping and then we go for dinner. Halley is going to help me run some errands also. It will be nice to have some company. I have a feeling we will end up at Toys R Us - a store I never go in unless I am with the neighborhood children.
Everyone have a wonderful day. We have a perfect summer day in Wisconsin.

OK - so there were suppose to be 3 cards - I won't even attempt to argue with blogger. I will just post the others tomorrow - same paper and same digital image. Very old paper and no idea what company it is. The image is a free digi from somewhere that was designed for Operation Write Home- I didn't put the name with my file so I am still looking for it - if you know - please leave the name in the comments area. More cards for Operation Write Home - I am getting close to sending my second box to a shipper.

Yeah it is Thursday - one day closer to the week end - I can do it - yes I can - although I really think I should go work some this week end - YUCK!!!
So what does a cardmaker do when given a pile of scraps after making cards from a coordinated group of papers - she makes more cards.
I hope you enjoy my cards from my scraps, found this colored image on my table - it worked perfectly, and some sentiment stickers and Penny Black stickers.
Everyone have a wonderful evening.

Card One

Card 2

Card 3

Good Wednesday morning – waiting for the repair person to come for the furnace/AC unit. It is time for it’s yearly check up – plus it has a little problem. I think we have hot muggy weather coming in for the end of the week so want the AC to be working. Of course, I hide in my basement lots of the time to play with paper so that offers some relief from the hot/muggy conditions. I always want to try and do something creative every day – well tonight – I think it may be laundry – work has been exhausting me this last month – but July is coming – I have a few quiet days for the year in July. Try to work some short weeks in July, etc. I just need to make it to July.

Today I am showcasing cards that I made for the midweek throwdow on the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes. The challenge is to use bling – I dug through my bling – of course – had to buy more bling (thus blog candy). I have made 3 cards for today’s post.

Glitter is a no no for OWH cards but bling bling isn’t. There is lots of bling in the stores also. Michael’s even has some in their $1 bins sometimes. The flourishes can be expensive but in cardmaking you can make a flourish decorate several cards.

I do have a small package of bling for blog candy – all you need to do is leave a comment on this post. Next Tuesday evening I will draw a winner's name. I hope you enjoy my cards with bling and look forward to seeing all of yours.

Here are the details for each card.

Card one – for a wedding this summer
Patterned Paper: Basic Grey – Cappella collection
Bling flower: Kaiser Scrapbooking
Bling scallop: found at Walmart
Stamp: Hampton Art Stamps colored with Copics
Rub On: Unknown
Ribbon: Michael’s (little metallic bling on the edge of ribbon)
Spellbinders

Card two - love the monochromatic colors
Paper: Bazzill Bling
Bling: Basic Grey
Sentiment: SRM Stickers

Oval Punch: Punch Bunch

Card three – bright and cheery (A lift of a card sent to me by my friend Ivanka – thanks for the inspiration)

Bling: Me and My Big Ideas
Sentiment: SRM Stickers
Flower Sticker: Penny Black
Ribbon: May Arts
Border Punch: Martha Stewart
Oval Punch: Punch Bunch
Stickles added to flower (Stickles are a safe glittery accent)

She needed a special card and hopefully she loves it.

Oldie Moldie Monday June 14, 2010

Good Monday Morning – a quick post before I head out the door to work. Yes it is Oldie Moldie Monday – time to dig into your old papers and show them some love. You bought them so you loved them once. I know they will make beautiful cards.

I finally got a chance to try the challenge on Clean and Simple Stamping
I always look at their sketch but usually can’t think of any simple stamping to do. Sometimes I just can’t do simple. I do like how my card turned out. The patterned paper makes the card. I love to stamp on patterned paper – it adds depth to your stamped image. If you can see I added brown ink to the red of the cardinal so the red wasn’t too bold.

The holiday cards are my start on holiday cards for Operation Write Home. If you have some oldie moldie paper you would love to use – Operation Write Home – is a wonderful place to do some creativity with all your paper. They have a card making blog also and have a sketch on Sunday and also a midweek challenge.

Everyone have a wonderful Monday and I hope there is some creativity in your day.

Sunday, June 13, 3010

Good Sunday evening - where did the week end go - back to work and hopefully I will get lots done.
I was trying to mow the lawn today and I got the first part mowed - came in to rest and came to the basement to create for a little bit, came upstairs and it was pouring - no more mowing today - hopefully tomorrow night I can mow another section of the lawn. I did get lots of cards made though. I have 3 to share tonight - there is a fourth but obviously I must not have edited it or saved it correctly. But do come back later in the week for the episode titled "when cardmaking gives you scraps".
The first card tonight is based on the sketch at the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes. They have a new sketch each Sunday. This paper is actually an Easter grouping but I loved the bright colors and they went with this group of Penny Black stickers I had. I wanted to make some kid birthday cards - they look like girl cards - but I have already made some boy cards for this box that will go to Operation Write Home. I was feeling lazy - I just cut one block and added strips of paper to make my blocks. You get the look without the work. Just call me a time saver - not lazy.
Everyone come back tomorrow - it is Oldie Moldie Monday - a start on Holiday cards for Operation Write Home.
Have a good evening.

Thursday, June 10, 2010

Good evening - short on posts this week - I must be busy - or at least not creating. I did manage to put together a card this morning. My cards are for the mid week challenge at Operation Write Home's card blog Stars and Stripes. The challenge came from the shipper's - and they wanted more masculine cards. I had the dinosaur card started (for a little masculine man) and I used some of the same paper in my masculine card. Dug out the truck stamp and went to town.
I had to have more laser surgery today - this time it was on my right eye - my left eye is doing OK. I hope I don't have any more tears in my retina. It scares you when something is happening to your eyes.
Everyone have a wonderful evening. Grilling out tonight. Steaks and my new love - sweet potatoes on the grill. Yummy.

Monday, June 7, 2010

Good Monday evening – it is oldie moldie Monday – or OMM – the day to dig into your supplies – dig deep – and find some paper that was once loved but forgotten. I am sure you will be able to create a beautiful card from it – actually how many cards can you make from it. Sometimes if you leave it out for the week – it is interesting to see how many cards you can actually create. My friend Ivanka and I even have a Flicker site where you can post your OMM creations.

Today’s card is based on the sketch from the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes. Every Sunday they have a new sketch to get your creative juices flowing – they even tell what size to cut your paper.

I had a collection of 8 x 8 pieces of this particular group of paper – I know I have made a couple cards from it already – On the second card you will notice that I trimmed off the scalloped edge and used the pieces as trim. Can’t waste anything that pretty.

Hopefully everyone had a chance to create something beautiful. I am going to try and finish the inside of a couple cards and get them out of the house this week with the gifts that go with them.

Sunday, June 7

Good Sunday afternoon - been busy working all day - I think I have reached the point of nothing more to accomplish besides cook dinner, dishes and laundry. Sounds like too much doesn't it. I have done a little creating - I actually did these on Friday but yesterday when I finally got home it was a torrential downpour so no taking pictures of cards.
The Midweek challenge on the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes is to use gold. I did not know what I was going to do - but as I was cleaning off my table I found this envelope a friend had sent me and inside were these gold stickers for cards - so now I could do the challenge - unfortunately I do not know who makes the stickers. I actually think I may have some golf ones some where. Rather a funky looking color for a car but it works with the paper.
Everyone have a good day - I want to go grill - hopefully the rain holds off so I can get it done.
