Happy Labor Day and Happy Birthday to my youngest daughter. Yes, she was born on Labor Day - the true definition of Labor. Hmmmm - 34 years ago. She ran a half marathon this week end - so proud of her.

This month Operation Write Home is celebrating their birthday with a month long celebration with lots of fun and challenges and prizes. You can follow along with the fun at their card blog Stamps and Stripes.

Today (Oldie Moldie Monday - the day to show some love to some older paper) I decided to dig into this stack of paper I bought a year or two ago - I don't know if I have made any cards out of it - but now I have made 5 cards. I will share 4 of them with you today. I used the paper that had all the little critters on it. I thought they would make great cards for the soldiers to send home. Little animals always make you smile.

This is the Die Cuts With a View "The Green Stack" - 70% recycled Paper. Why is that it that you run out of some sheets of paper to help finish cards. I need to see if I can find a sheet of the stripes for accent pieces, some coordinating green and some red.

Good Tuesday morning. Another beautiful spring day in Wisconsin - I let my body rest yesterday so tonight when I get home from work - I need to work on another flower bed and work it up. It is so dry that the soil does turn over fairly well. It was funny at work yesterday because we had all been working outside and we were all groaning as we hobbled along.

My two cards today were made for the midweek challenge on the Operations Write Home card blog - the challenge was to make two versions of the same card - one masculine and one feminine. The difference in my cards was the paper used and the colors. I also di the twine accents in the buttons different on each card. I like how they turned out. I think next week I will be able to put my first box of cards in the mail to them. I have friends at work writing Hero letters for me.

Sunday 4-18/10

Good Sunday afternoon - beautiful day outside - the wind stopped blowing so much more enjoyable. I managed to do some more dirt therapy and got one flower bed cleaned up - going to head out shortly and put Preen on it and see if that helps with the weeds. I don't think I disturbed too much of the new plants coming up. I know I will have some retail plant therapy in my future when the bed establishes itself some more - we are lucky to have some wonderful perennial stores around our area so I imagine I will be visiting some.

April has Earth Day. Do you know Earth Day was first established in Wisconsin. I have a daughter who teaches environmental education so do strive to try to live"somewhat green". Try is the operative word. My cards and recipe pages all have one thing in common - the base of all of them is recycled. It is the back cover from commencement programs. I can't throw away good cardstock so I always save whatever I can from the programs I end up throwing out. I also have grey cardstock from a previous style of program. What do you do to reduce, reuse, recycle when you are making cards? Also all the patterned paper on these designs are from paper that I describe as "oldie moldie" - paper you once loved but lost their way to the bottom of the piles - dug out to make something beautiful. The border was painted with acrylic paint to make it green. Inked up and then the background stamp used on the border. Very distressed border - but uses the scraps after the base was cut.

Saturday 4-17-2010

Good afternoon everyone - beautiful day in Wisconsin - but it is windy so there is a chill out there. I indulged in some dirty therapy - digging out the weeds in my flower beds. They are new flower beds so lots of weeds. The goal is to get one side done this week - I don't think that will be a problem. I got my errands run this morning so now I can relax at home the remainder of the week end - relax - now isn't that a mouthful. Who relaxes on a week end - too many things to do.

This morning I did get two cards made. The cards are based on two challenges. The sketch is from Die Cuts R Us (Tuesday sketch) and the Wednesday challenge from the Operation Write Home card blog is to make his and her general cards. This Smile tree stamp works so well and it can cover so many occasions.

Hump Day - yeah made it through - now we can start the downward slide to the week end. I need to do some housekeeping tonight - yuck - but I will do the dishes and maybe then I can make this card that is floating around in my head - come back tomorrow night and see if it happened.

I am still working on how many cards I can make out of 4 sheets of paper and a scrap piece - it sure helps when some of the paper is double sided. Infinite possibilities - well maybe not that many - but enough. Any big enough scraps are going into the scrap bin - I want to move onto some different paper. This all started with my Oldie Moldie cards on Monday, more on Tuesday and the last 3 tonight - I made a total of 7 cards and they are all for the Operation Write Home. Tuesday 4-6-10

A quick post - just got home and it is time to think about getting ready for bed - the Ya Ya's visited Shari tonight. We all watched Dancing With the Stars - oh please - send Kate home.

This is a continuation of "how many cards can you make from 4 sheets of paper and some card bases" - this is day two of a 3 day episode. Come back tomorrow for the final episode. The scraps called to me all night last night so I had to get up and make a card this morning before I left for work (the 2nd card in tonight's post). I found a challenge this week to use a craft cardbase - I stamped a background stamp on my kraft cardbase on each of these cards. It is an old Stampin! Up background stamp. I love the dimension that is added to your cardbase. This challenge can be found at Crazy 4 Challenges. The first card is based on the Sunday sketch at 365 Cards. (Day 35 Super Sunday Sketch)

Isn't that an exciting title for a blog post - it was the best I could come up with. A quick post tonight - I am not feeling 100% tonight so going to go relax. I guess those dirty dishes will have to wait another evening.

Tonight's card is based on the sketch at 2 Sketches 4 You. A pretty basic design you could do lots with. I did some very simple stamping. Only took me 3 or 4 times to get the bird and sentiment stamped on the same piece of paper so they both looked OK. I am onec again using up some of my older paper. I have a drawer of pink and brown paper and so I dug in there for this card. Notice the inking - I ended up with a smudge so had to add the extra inking - don't know if this is a card for someone or if it is going into a card set.
