Hello Birdie

I saw this sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch and it immediately brought to my little old mind two stamps that I had sitting on my crafting tables (yes tables).

I had recently got a stamp from Gina K Designs that the stripes reminded me of.  I also had the Dina Wakely bird stamps so the card was in my head.  I wanted to find some paper to stamp on that had a little character or depth.  I started going through my 6 x 6 pads and found  this sheet of orange (oh I wish I had more of it) and knew it would work.

The stripes were stamped with a bright pink Gina K ink.  The bird and sentiment were stamped in Black Versafine Ink.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts.

This is a very CAS(E) card but it will mail easily.

Thanks for stopping by.

Back to Making Cards

I have been away from making cards doing other things and before I leave on vacation I want to get some Mojo moving through this body.  I want to make my soul creative again.  I do miss being creative.  It is an essential part of me.  It brings me happiness and joy.  We can always use a dose of happiness and joy in our daily life.

I went to look at some sketches to see if I could find something to get me moving.  I found this simple sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  It reminded me of a card I had made before so went with that idea from before.

For the circle I stenciled a flower with ink.  I then stamped a simple flower and sentiment to complete the card.

I am visiting a cousin for several weeks and wanted to take her a box of cards as a thank you gift.  This is one of the cards I will take to her.  It is a simple card to make.

I am going to try and not do anything else to the card.  I have these deep desire to go get some black paint or ink and sprinkle on it.  Slap my hands.

Everyone have a wonderful day.

OK I had to try another version.  I found some paper with a little background to it (some depth) and created the same card on it.  The stamps were on the Misti yet.  I then added the black strip to the top to ground it or add some balance.  I do think I like it better than the other.

Since it was so simple and it was already set up on the Misti, I actually stamped out five more of this particular design to be assembled at a later date.

On to the next sketch.

Oldie Moldie Monday

I have had this little Hedgehog stamp for many years.  I wanted to make some happy cards and how can you not smile when you see this image on a card you receive.

See - you are smiling just by looking at them online.

Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media Challenge

I am proud to tell everyone that I am now on the design team for Happy Little Stampers for their Mixed Media challenges.  I love to play with mixed media.  You ask - "what is mixed media."  I recently heard this definition - it is anything that you create where you combine several different ways of doing things.  This is a very basic definition.  To me it means that I use paper, ink, paint, string, embossing paste, and the list can go on.

This month the challenge is to recycle.  I was very excited when I saw this was the challenge.  I save lots of different things and now I got a chance to use some of them.

This is a birthday card - I have not decided who for sure will get it.  It has to be someone who appreciates all the hard work I put into the card.

Recycled Items:  kraft base; dark brown layer (backing in Tim Holtz stencil packages; pink and green paper is from Tim Holtz embossing folder package; girl image is backing in Christy Tomlinson packaging; lace - little piece leftover from some project floated around sewing room for years;cardboard; threads leftover from tearing fabric strips: muslin bow - leftover torn strip; flower is sewing pattern tissue; center of flower is threads wet with gel medium and colored; and butterflies are from some Prima packaging.  I did distress the edges of the packaging.

Red paint was added to the flowers in the girls hair and white embossing paste was put on the image and smeared on the cardboard.

Here is a close up of the flower.

Here is a close up of the corner with the thread, butterflies, lace and embossing paste.

I really enjoyed digging through all my saved items and I think I came up with a wonderful card.  I really love it.

Come play with us at Happy Little Stampers.  They have other challenges each month besides Mixed Media.

Oldie Moldie Monday

I decided to make some Christmas cards for Oldie Moldie Monday even though it is the 4th of July.  I did get four cards made.

I had never used this stamp from Stampendous before so it falls into the Oldie Moldie file plus the paper is American Crafts 2014.  The sentiment stamp is from Paper Smooches and I found a stamp for the inside that also says something about cheer so it all works together seamlessly.

I made two of this card using the sketch at 52 (Christmas) Throwdown.  They had a sketch challenge this week.

Here is my card.  I had to fussy cut the polar bear - I think it is a polar bear.  Stickles have been added to the hat cuff and ball and also the green circles on the red package.

The next card is for the challenge on AAA Cards (CAS) where the challenge is to use a tag.  I hand cut the image into a tag shape.

I did try to keep it simple.  I did add a drop of glossy accents at the end of the twine to hold it in place.

The last challenge is from The Paper Players where the challenge this week is Christmas.

On this card the image overhangs the base of the card.  It still fits in a A2 envelope.  I like to mix things up a little in my style of card plus I had made my own card bases for the square cards and I had this size left over so decided to make this particular style.  The snowflakes is from my supplies.  It is made from felt.

I now have four more cards in my Christmas card supply.  I have used a few old supplies so I am happy.

Enjoy your 4th of July.

Treasures Found

I have been doing some cleaning and of course, when you clean, you find great treasures.  I happened across some sprays I had bought many years ago when I took a class from Stamp Zia - I don't even know if she is around anymore.  I know she was from Wisconsin.  I did have fun in the class, I do remember that.

Well of course I had to see if the sprays still worked before I threw them away.  I got out a sheet of paper from a Dylusions Journal and started spraying it.  Once it was dry I did like the background I had achieved.  I decided I would make some more postcards.  I cut three postcards from my sheet - the largest is 4 x 6 and then the other two are just a little smaller.  I did have a strip of the sprayed paper left so I made 2 skinny cards.

The stamp on the postcards is a Tammy Tutterow stamp from Spellbinders.  I stamped with Versafine Ink and clear embossed.  The hello is a diecut from Hero Arts.  I added some extra hearts with a little stamp from Stamps by Judith.

On this card, the flower is a stamp from Penny Black.  The little sentiment maybe from Hero Arts.  It was just laying on my design table.  I added a simple bow with black crochet thread and the panel was matted with black.  I did pop dot the panel to the front of the card.

I am entering the postcards in the Wednesday Challenge on Simon Says Stamp where the challenge is Anything Goes.  Love those challenges.

I think I may go to the Farmers Market.  I am feeling a little restless so maybe it would be a good idea to get out of the house for a little while.  I did go for a 20 minutes walk.  I am trying to do this every other day.  I have bursitis in one hip so trying not to aggravate it.

Have a wonderful day.

Mixed Media July Challenge

It is July 1 and it is time for a new challenge on the Mixed Media Mojo Blog.  The challenge is Summertime with the twist being Shells.

There are so many things that are fun in the summertime.  I chose a nautical theme.  My card is a birthday card for a friend.  I think he will like it and appreciate all the work that went into it.

All the paper and fabric came from a Recollection collection from Michael's.  The wood anchor was purchased there also.

If you come back to visit the Mixed Media Mojo Blog on July 6, I take you through the steps involved in making this card.

Come play along with us with a mixed media project.
