Oldie Moldie Monday

More thank you notes for the office.  One of my fellow coworkers likes monkeys so I always make cards for him with monkeys on them.  Even his wedding and engagement cards had monkeys on them.  The sentiment stamp - I just found in my stash.  I thought it worked well.  The image was gifted to me so I have no information on it.  It was colored with Copics.  The paper is a well aged 6 x 6 pad from Basic Grey.

Floral Thank You Take Two

Another floral thank you note.  The background is painted with acrylic paints on mixed media paper.  The floral stamp from Hero Arts was stamped in VersaMark and Hero Arts embossing powder was used.  The Thank You Sticker is from SRM Stickers.  The bow is from fabric.

Oldie Moldie Monday

Yes Oldie Moldie Monday returns.  I made them today - my first day of not going to work retirement.  I don't think week ends count.  The paper is from an older Basic Grey 6 x 6 pad and the stamp is from Paper Smooches.  Even the yellow ribbon was a scrap that was left over.  Luckily it was just enough for the card.

Remember to show some love for your older supplies.  They still make great cards.

Mixed Media Thank You Card

Finally got a chance to get a better picture of this card.  Some fellow cardmakers were sent fabric Yo Yo's to create with.  It will be fun to see what everyone comes up with.

Of course, I am boring.  I made a card with a flower with a yo yo center.

I had the blue background already made.  I believe I just dipped the watercolor paper in distress inks.  I don't know which blue I used.  I used some green paint and stencil to add the dots to the background.  I added more texture with embossing paste through a stencil.  The black flower was cut with the Silhouette.  I cut 3 layers and glued them together to add a little dimension to the flower base.  Since I had fabric on the card, I wanted to make a fabric bow also.  This fabric is flannel.  After I laid the card out, I decided I needed to add some black into the background so used a new Prima Stamp.  A sticker sentiment from SRM Stickers finishes off the card.

I am going to enter this card in the currently monthly challenge at Mixed Media Card Challenge.   The challenge is blue.  I think there is enough blue in the background and the bow and flower have a shade of blue in it.

Today at 4:30 I started a new chapter in my life.  I retired.  I am excited that I will have some more time to create and explore some new areas of interest.

Belated Happy Birthday

Sorry - no Oldie Moldie Monday post - I was cleaning/clearing, moving furniture, etc so I did not get a card made using old supplies.  I started but it was not falling together so it will wait for another day.

I did finish this card this week end.  It was a background made with distress inks.  I used pink, yellow and green  I love how the backgrounds always turn out so different.  The flower was colored with distress ink or paint - don't remember.  Too much swirling in my head right now.  The tape was colored with distress paints also.

Four more days of work and I will be retired.  I am so excited.  Maybe I will find more time to create and explore new techniques.

The Flowers of Summer

I have been playing with my gelatos, gesso and distress paints,  I saw a card similar to this on Pinterest and unfortunately I do not know who did it originally.  I loved the design so tried my best to come up with a card that was somewhat similar.

Here are a couple close ups of the flowers and the bow.

The flowers are colored with distress markers and made out of gessoed book pages.  I cut wonky circles in different sizes and layered them.  The smaller flowers have two sizes and the larger flower has three sizes of wonky circles.  

The bow was colored with distress ink.

I am going to enter this card in the challenge on Mixed Media Monthly challenge Summer Days.  What is more summer than bright colored flowers.

Oldie Moldie Monday

I have been missing in action but hope now to get back on track and post more often again.  I needed to make a sympathy card.  A friend's son passed away.  My go to stamps for sympathy cards when a males has passed away is trees.  I chose to you a Basic Grey 6 x 6 pad called Basic Black Dress - it is amazing how nice a masculine card can be made with this paper.

The tree and sentiment were stamped in Versamark and I used Zing brown embossing powder.  The tree stamp is from Penny Black and the sentiment stamp is from Stampabilities.

I am entering this into the weekly challenge at Addicted to Stamps where this week's challenge is Anything Goes.  

Remember to show some love for your old supplies - they still make great projects.  

Summertime

What says summer better than the colors of Yellow and Green.  Yellow represents the sunshine and Green represents the grass (that keeps growing and needing to be mowed) and birds - birds who wake up singing at the crack of dawn.  They are so happy.

The background was made with a yellow gelato and Green Grass distress ink.  I scribbled the gelato on my sheet and added water.  I dipped the watercolor paper in it.  The distress ink was done the same way.  You needed to let them dry between dippings.  I believe I came back and redipped the yellow so it was a little brighter.  The cute little birdie was stamped on gessoed book pages and colored with distress paints.  He was cut out and glued to the panel.  Googly eyes were added with glossy accents.  The ribbon was dyed with the distress inks also.  The dots are embossing paste - the dots add just a little contrast to the green/yellow back ground.  Everything was matted with dark grey cardstock.

Christmas in July

Christmas in July – time to start working on your projects for the holidays.  This is the challenge at Mixed MediaMojo.  The extra twist is to use a Santa on your project. 

 I started with a canvas board.  It measures  6 x 8.  I covered the board with part of a carry out bag from Panera.  I love this muted pattern on the kraft.  It was adhered to the board with gel medium.  After it had dried, I put a layer of clear gesso on the paper.  I did not want to lose the background color but wanted some bite for the layers to be added.

The Santa for this piece is chipboard from My Mind’s Eye from 2013.  He is super cute but needed to be more vintage looking.  I took  distress ink and rubbed it across the Santa to give it a more vintage, mellowed look.  Well I didn’t quite like that so I started adding in some color on the jacket trim, the gift bag, belt and gloves. 

The clear gesso covered all the muted pattern on the kraft paper so I decided to just start adding some paint.  I put on blue distress paint.  I then used crackle paste through a stencil.  After it was dry I rubbed green, brown and red distress paint on it.  Now the fun with begin - Adding all the layers of stuff. 

I adhered the chipboard with gel medium.  I also used gel medium on the baubles.  The canvas seemed a little naked in the corners so I found this green trim and added it to two corners.  The edge of the canvas has a copper metallic paint along the edges.

So on those hot summer days, get out some of your Christmas stuff and start creating beautiful projects.
