OWH Sticker Skip

Welcome to the second Operation Write Home SKIP. Today’s SKIP is going to focus on the use of Stickers. Stickers are a great way to make a card but you do have to be careful how you use your stickers – you don’t want to just randomly place them all over a card. If you have been watching any of Sandy’s TV episodes and our design segments – you are learning about the importance of focal points on your cards. Little things you can do to step up your card design.

There are many great sticker companies. One of my favorite companies is SRM Stickers – they have sheets of Sentiments – usually around one particular subject area – ie birthday, winter, holiday, etc. Their cost is very inexpensive for the number of cards you can make out of a sticker sheet of sentiments. If you check through my blog you will find their sentiments on many of my cards. Penny Black has always had beautiful stickers. It is so easy to make a card using one of her stickers. Great value for your money. Mrs. Grossman has many stickers also.

I made three cards for you today. I had hopes of making more but time gets away from you. Working sure gets in the way of having time to create.

My first card is a masculine card. Golf is a favorite sport for many people – men and women – I chose to take a masculine route with this card. When I first laid out the card – it had no depth or character – so I cuddlebugged the blue background with an argyle folder (argyle/golf – they go together don’t they). I then got out my chalk and chalked the background blue embossed paper, chalked the golf cart (main focus of the card). If you notice I placed the sticker on a piece of paper that also had depth to it. Adds more character than a plain piece of green paper. I added the sentiment to a strip of green paper. A strip of plaid and a couple brads made a great sticker card. I dressed up the focal point (golf card) by using a interesting piece of paper to mount the sticker on and then added some chalk to add some distress (or maybe it was mud) to the focal point. The sentiment (one of the great sentiment stickers from SRM Stickers) was not just stuck on the card but placed on another piece of paper which had some depth. See how easy it is to dress up a Sticker card.

The second card is a more feminine card and could be sent to an adult or younger female. I found this great clear sticker at JoAnn’s – it is by Me and My Big Ideas – the bling is already on the card. I also used some letter stickers for my sentiment – letter stickers can be found all over and by many different companies. On this card – I used a Bo Bunny dots paper for my cardbase – this paper adds depth – you could have just used a piece of this paper also on top of a plain card base. I tried to follow the color palette of the light blue with pink accents for my color in the card. Both colors are in the bling on the sticker. Very simple layered card but I think makes great use of the sticker and the sentiment is simple but effective because it picks up the pink used in the card.

My third card is very simple – I think it needs something to dress it up and that is where you come in. The s tickers on this card are the buttons. I punched holes in the buttons (just like a real button) and then wove a double strand of twine through the buttons – I left a small amount of twine hanging over the edge of the card to add a little dimension. The buttons are pop dotted to give a little depth to them. The card is OK but needs to be stepped up – so this is where you come into the mix – please leave me a comment and give me suggestions on how you think I should dress up this card.

So please leave a comment on everyone’s Sticker Post – this puts you in a drawing for a prize from OWH – I also will have a drawing for a SRM Sentiment sheet for anyone who leaves me a comment (please leave me your e mail address so I can contact you).

You will be next popping over to visit Erica and see what she has to share with you. If you get lost – the list is below – or pop back to Stars and Stamps and start all over.

Good Tuesday morning. I probably should never post in the morning - because I am still half asleep and not too talkative.
This card was made for the challenges on Hero Arts Flicker site this week end. I love the softness of the colors. The challenge was to make a blue and silver holiday card. I do wish I had more of this paper. The paper is in a paper pad I bought at Tuesday Morning. It would be such an easy way to make some holiday cards for Operation Write Home.
    Everyone have a wonderful day.

Paper: ATD - Momenta - Jack Frost Collection

Good evening - hope you are having a wonderful day. A quick post - having some back spasms so need to go lay on the floor with a heating pad. I don't think there will be any creating tonight. I did take my distress ink (orange) and colored and misted 3 dictionary pages - tomorrow I will do another color - I want to make some more flowers - like the flowers on the card from Sunday - thought I would try some fall colors.
My card tonight is based on the sketch from Clean and Simple - the second card is - oops - my sentiment did not stamp well so move the border strip up - but first stamp another flower. Card saved. The first card is more in line with the sketch. I am having fun with that dictionary - hmmm - I wonder how many cards can be made from one dictionary. I wish the pages were a little bigger but the price was right at Goodwill.
    Everyone have a good evening.

    Sunday, June 27, 2010

Good Sunday afternoon - I got up today and played with some paper. I was on the road yesterday visiting my Mom so when I came home I ended up with a 2 hour nap - watched TV for a couple hours and then back to sleep. It is hot and muggy here and wet. Had some storms go through this morning - I guess it is going to be beautiful the remainder of the week - the heat and humidity are leaving. Yeah. I prefer not to have the AC on. Takes away from my money for paper - because you know I don't have enough.
Today's card is for my friend Shari's mom - Shari lost her battle with breast cancer in May and I hear that Mae is struggling - as any mother would be who loses a child - no matter what age our child is - 6 months, 6 years or 60. I want Mae to know that I am thinking of her. I made many monkey cards for Shari during her battle this last year so it will bring a smile to Mae and remember all the love we shared for Shari.
The card is based on the sketch at A Crafty Little Place - haven't been able to play the last few weeks with their sketches. I sure hate it when work robs you of your creativity.
Come back tomorrow to see the cards for Oldie Moldie Monday using the sketch from Operation Write Home. Everyone enjoy your Sunday.

    Card One

    Card 2

    Card 3

Good Wednesday morning – waiting for the repair person to come for the furnace/AC unit. It is time for it’s yearly check up – plus it has a little problem. I think we have hot muggy weather coming in for the end of the week so want the AC to be working. Of course, I hide in my basement lots of the time to play with paper so that offers some relief from the hot/muggy conditions. I always want to try and do something creative every day – well tonight – I think it may be laundry – work has been exhausting me this last month – but July is coming – I have a few quiet days for the year in July. Try to work some short weeks in July, etc. I just need to make it to July.

Today I am showcasing cards that I made for the midweek throwdow on the Operation Write Home card blog Stars and Stripes. The challenge is to use bling – I dug through my bling – of course – had to buy more bling (thus blog candy). I have made 3 cards for today’s post.

Glitter is a no no for OWH cards but bling bling isn’t. There is lots of bling in the stores also. Michael’s even has some in their $1 bins sometimes. The flourishes can be expensive but in cardmaking you can make a flourish decorate several cards.

I do have a small package of bling for blog candy – all you need to do is leave a comment on this post. Next Tuesday evening I will draw a winner's name. I hope you enjoy my cards with bling and look forward to seeing all of yours.

Here are the details for each card.

    Busy Busy continued

Good Tuesday evening. I am on catch up mode at work - and I sure did not get very far - need to put it in even higher gear tomorrow. If I get everything laid out the night before I can usually make it into work and start work an hour ahead of time - I have no problems starting 30 minutes early but getting going and out in time to work an extra hour is harder but I must do it the next couple days.
I came home tonight and made some banana bread - that is in the oven baking - just a mix and I add over ripen bananas to the mix. Makes it even moister - that will taste good - I may take it to my friend Shari. She had her surgery today so I plan on spending Friday with her and make some food. Anyone have a good chicken casserole recipe - I have lots of chicken left from making my homemade broth.
I made this card on Sunday. It is a new stamp - I do seem to like the penguins this year - they make you smile. I stamped this with chalk ink and then did color the scarves with Copics - it did work. Added some Stickles for a little sparkle.
    Everyone have a wonderful evening.
