How did it get to be June 1 already? May was a super busy month for me if you will notice I had very few posts on my blog. I did do something creative which I will share this week. I just have not had the time to post.
But June 1 means it is time for a new challenge on the Mixed Media Mojo challenge blog.
Summer can mean many things. For me, it means flowers. I love to watch the different flowers bloom throughout the summer. A tealish color is one of my favorite colors in all shades so I chose to do my project in that monochromatic color scheme.
I bought two bottles of acrylic paint - a light shade and a dark shade. I had a embossing enamel called sea glass and the teal pleated canvas trim which is along the bottom.
The tag is a Paper Smooches die. The tag is made from painted book page. I stamped over the tag with a background stamp with a Hero Arts teal colored ink. The sentiment is from Dina Wakely. I thought it was very appropriate for the new path I am taking in my life in July - retirement.
The flowers are a combination of purchased flowers and handmade flowers. Starting on the upper right side the two little flowers were white felt which I painted. The large flower was a book page that was painted front and back and I cut out a flower with my Silhouette and layered it together. The polka dot flower was also cut with the Silhouette from patterned paper. The next light teal flower was also cut with the Silhouette. The last three flowers were in my flower stash and I just added acrylic paint to make them coordinate.
The lace trim with the polka dot paper woven through was actually cream colored. I put the lace in a watered down acrylic paint and let it dry.
The canvas board was painted with gesso and then acrylic paint. The floral background is a Hero Arts background stamp. I inked it with VersaMark and used Sea Glass Enamel powder from the Rubber Cafe. Unfortunately it did not stamp all the way across but it is amazing what the tag and flowers can cover.
The upper left corner seemed off balance so I used some scalloped die cuts. Inked them with VersaMark and used the Sea Glass enamel on them.
I then started layering. The tag does have a double layer of foam tape on the back so it pops up a little higher. Luckily I had those sparkly dots in my supplies which matched perfectly and were used for flower centers and on the tag.
I really love how the canvas turned out. I now want more of that enamel in different colors.
Come join us at Mixed Media Mojo this month and create a summer mixed media project.

ATC - Groovy Chicks
I am having fun making at least one ATC a week for the challenge weekly challenge at Wicked Wednesday Weekly ATC Challenge. The theme this week is Groovy Chicks.
I love this quote from Audrey Hepburn "If you obey all the Rules, You Miss all the Fun." I think maybe it is time to start breaking some rules. The beautiful stamp is from Dina Wakely. Since she is groovy she needed to have magenta/pink hair.
The background of the ATC is distress paint. Over the top I sprayed some spray through a stencil. I don't think you can even see that layer. The chick was stamped on some gessoed pages and colored with distress paints and gelatos. She was glued to the ATC with gel medium. I added the purplish dots through a stencil and then dabbed them off with a paper towel. To finish off the background I stamped my favorite circle stamp and colored them with distress paints.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a good week. I do hope to be a little more creative this week.

Art Journal Page
The first page in a journal. Somewhat daunting - very scary.
I have had this blank journal for
awhile. It is a mixed media
journal. It is laying in the area where
I do my mixed media so when I had gesso left over I would smear it on the
page. I have two pages that are prepped
like this.
Tonight I started my first page. When I read the monthly Take the Challenge with Mou on the Faber Castell blog - to create a project related to Time.
I scribbled some different colors of Gelatos
on the page and then smoothed them out with a wipe.
Currently I am not too happy with the look
but I know it can be changed very easily.
I deepened the color with more Gelatos and spread the color with my
fingers so more of the pigment stayed on the page.
I found this great image of an antique alarm clock at The Graphic Fairy and printed it on copy paper. I cut it out and added it to the page with
gel medium.
I then took different stencils and distress
paint and added some texture around the page.
My favorite turned out to be the orange paint with the square
stencils. I liked it so well I put it on
in several different areas of the page.
I also painted in the edge of the paper where the spiral was.
I am always afraid to write or stamp
directly on a page because of the chance to ruin something. I decided to write my quote on tissue
paper. I love how tissue paper just
melts into your background with gel medium.
(sorry my picture of the handwriting on the tissue paper did not turn
out). I wish now I had written it larger and it was darker.
I took a Tim Holtz stencil that had numbers on it (a page about time needs numbers on it). I laid the stencil on the page and used the Big Brush through the stencil to add the numbers in 4 different spots. I also stamped some circles (I love this little circle stamp from Judith). I painted the inside of the circle with a Dina Wakely acrylic paint (my only tube).
I keep feeling the urge to add more to the page but I like the page the way it is.
Some things that make my soul happy are my daughters, my mother, the rest of my family, my neighbors, playing with my paper, and the thought that in about 15 months I hope to retire. On that note thanks for stopping by.

Mixed Media Mojo March Challenge
Yes I know I have been missing but I have been doing some creating. Winter continues to drag on and zap many of us of any desire to do much. I go to work, I come home, I hope to sleep and then it starts all over.
On the creative side, I have been having lots of fun with the Monthly challenge for Mixed Media Mojo.
There is something so fun about creating those little pieces of art. ATC cards - 2.5 inches by 3.5. You can do so much in that little space. The Twist is Set of 2. It could mean two ATC's; it could be two of the same element on one card; what will your interpretation of the twist be.
My first interpretation (and I will share more during the month) is a set of 2. I am redoing my living room and have some beautiful fabric that I picked out the some of the colors from. I also have this idea to have a wall of "B" art. Stay tuned to the blog for more fun with that. Are you ready, here are my ATC's. A set of 2; each ATC has 2 sets of B's, each card has a B an a b; two butterflies.
Once again I used my Dina Wakely scribbly bird stamp. Do you know I have discovered entire boards on Pinterest of beautiful creations with this stamp set. The Butterflies is a stamp I have had for years.
Come back later in the month and I will share a how to on these ATC's and also be sharing my other ATC's.
Get your creativity on and join us at Mixed Media Mojo. Oh, did you hear we have a Design Team call - come play with us.

Blue Bird of Happiness
I am in love with this bird stamp and I have only used the one bird - there are three more to use. The stamp is by Dina Wakely for Ranger. It is called Scribbly Birds.
On Sunday I shared a canvas I made with the bird and one of the sentiments, but there was this saying going through my head when I painted the bird blue - blue bird of happiness. Inside the sentiment says "so blank blank blank be happy". I think I will add happy valentine's day. I think it would make a few people smile.
Did you notice his/her heart is broken? I have never had my texture paste do that before. Maybe there is something very symbolic in this. The card front is made on mixed media paper with layers of gelatos, acrylic paint, texture paste, distress ink, regular ink, gel medium, and gessoed dictionary pages.
I am going to enter this in the weekly challenge on Monday's Simon Says Stamp. The challenge is "H is for" - well for me it could be happiness or for those three little red hearts.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoying my humor - hey another H.

Mixed Media Mojo February Challenge
It is the first of the month. Time for the monthly challenge on Mixed Media Mojo. It is a fun challenge this month.
It is February - the month of love - and what color is associated with Valentine's Day - Red. The Twist for the month is Wings.
Of course, I did not do Valentine's Day. I flew off (get it wings) in my own direction. I had bought this lovely set of bird stamps designed by Dina Wakley for Ranger Ink. The set is called Scribbly Birds. Quite a fun set. I know I will get lots of use out of the four different birds in the set and the sentiments also.
Here is my creation. I will giving you a step out on February 11 so if you want to know how I made this canvas, please stop by the Mixed Media Mojo blog that day.
I think it is so cheerful. It looks like Mr. Bluebird is standing on his tipee toes on the branch. You notice there is red in two corners.
I do hope you join us on the blog this month with your mixed media project.
